Analysis you won’t hear anywhere else straight from Buffalo’s head coach prior to the Bills-Falcons game Week 17 at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park

Hey, listen to me. Now, that's a hell of a team win. At hell of the team win. They had us for day. Baby, we ain't dying yet. I listen, listen now, you gotta stay humble right here, because we got two more games to go. One at the time. That's number two right there, right, that's number two. That's number two. We gotta stay humble. We may play him again also right keep sneaking up on people. Nothing more important than the next one. Man, I'm joy this. Let's get on twit tomorrow. Love y'all. What I find in the way, I'm in the way every week. Hello Buffalo Bill, no overthinking? All right, go play the ball. Le's play some football. An exciting time to be a Buffalo build of the same of the Buffalo Bills. Welcome into Week seventeen of the Sean McDermott Show, presented by Connors and Ferris, your workers camp attorneys. I'm Steve Taskin, of course, I'm pleased as always to be joined by Sean McDermott, head coach of the Bills. Coach, thanks for joining us. You went on the road to New England. You got a gigantic win to move your team into first place, and now you've got to win two more games to lock up the division title. What does a win of this magnitude mean to your team as it rounds the corner into the playoffs. Well, I think it's a It's a boost of momentum, if you will, Steve, and it's a confidence builder as well, just because of the way we played. We played a complimentary game, well rounded. I thought our offense probably played the best that they had played all season long. And that goes through Josh obviously in coach Daves, and just a great game plan and again well executed. Yeah, you talk about Josh. He played like an MVP against the Pats through for three hundred and fourteen yards, three touchdowns, He led the team with sixty four rushing yards. He looked like he was in the zone all game, and then he delivered on that final offensive drive with three huge conversions. What is it about Josh Allen that elevates him in crunch time? Well, I think he has that kind of gunslinger mentality. That term gets thrown around a lot, I'm sure, but you know, he has that mentality of just you know, he's gonna win the down or win the situation. And you saw that again on that fourth down and inches where he ran the naked there and had two defenders to beat, but he found a way. And that's what Josh and hopefully our team does very well. I know Josh is big into those moments, and I think our team loves to watch him in those moments as well. Yeah. You know, last week we talked about Gabriel Davis stepping up with Emmanuel Sanders being out of the lineup. Now this week, Isaiah McKenzie steps up and he has a career day with Cole Beasley out and Davis out. He has eleven catches for one hundred and twenty five yards a touchdown, and just a month ago he was a healthy scratch on Thanksgiving and now he's the leading receiver in the biggest game of the season so far. How impressed are you with the way he stepped up against New England in that spot. Yeah. Great to see a player like Isaiah step in, you know, not being the normal starter at that position, step in and make the most of the opportunity and help our team. And I think that's a great lesson for a lot of guys on our team who may not be the starter week to week or get the most playing time at that position. That they just got to keep working and continue to work and the opportunity will come. And it's what they do with the opportunity that matters most. You know, your offensive line coming into this game was a big question mark. You were missing some guys. You had the injury to Ike Butcker in the second quarter, so even during the game, you know you had this big change, but they still allowed zero sacks. They paved the way for four hundred and twenty eight total yards of offense. I guess, one of the top defenses in the league. How do you feel about where your offensive line is with now with two games left in the regular season. Yeah, very impressed by that. I mean, everything goes to the offensive line, everything goes to the defensive line on both sides of the ball. The line of scrimmage is important. Great to see Mitch Morris lead that unit upfront, interchangeable parts at times leading up to the game and then again during the game as you mentioned, to have Dion put back in there and basically short notice is coming back to us a day before. Very resilient group overall, very resilient effort. Great to see coach Mac Jones attempted more than three passes this time around, but he wound up completing less than fifty percent, with only fourteen completions on thirty two attempts for one hundred and forty five yards zero touchdowns. He finished with a passer rating of thirty one point four. How did Leslie Frasier in your defensive staff make it difficult on this rookie to get things going through the air. I thought Leslie did a great job with a defensive staff putting together a good plan. You know, we didn't really get a chance to see what the passing plan was from the winging the first go around because of the weather and the way the game was played naturally. So this go around, it was great to see us execute our past game plan. And players did a great job, you know with the coverage disguises and moving things around and varying the calls, varying the looks, and I think that gave maybe the young quarterbacks from trouble. He's a good player, He's going to have a right future and I'm sure we'll be going toe to toe with him from many years to come. Here. All right, thanks coach, We're gonna catch up with you later in the show to get your final thoughts on your upcoming matchup with the Falcons. The game plan is presented by Energy Mark, the official energy supplier to the Buffalo Bills. Game preview is presented by independent Elmon. The nine and six Buffalo Bills are hosting the seven and eight at line of Falcons, and both teams have a path to the playoffs. The Falcons have only won back to back games once this season and are coming off a win against the Lions. Atlanta is averaging eighteen and a half points per game and three hundred and nine and a half total yards per game. They do have two players to worry about, Cordarrel Patterson and Kyle Pitts. Patterson has more than one thousand scrimming yards and pits is nine hundred and forty nine receiving yards, are the second most by its height end. The Falcons defense is allowing twenty six points seven points per game, which ranks toward the bottom of the NFL and allows teams to score touchdowns at sixty four point nine percent of the time in the red zone, which ranks twenty fourth. The Buffalo Bills are back to winning consecutive games and have scored more than thirty points in the last two After Josh Ellens three touchdown day against the Patriots. He is now the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least one hundred passing touchdowns and tally at least twenty rushing touchdowns in his first four seasons. The Bills have the best defense in the NFL and are allowing an average of just two hundred and eighty seven point nine total yards per game. They continue to limit offenses just like they have all season by letting qbs post a fifty six point nine percent completion percentage and a sixty four point four passer rating against them, both are the lowest in the NFL. The Falcons leave the series against the Bills with seven wins and five losses. That's this week's game preview, Steve back to you, thanks Mattie, Coach. You're facing the Atlanta Falcons with a chance to clinch a playoff berth. If you win out, you'll win the division get a home playoff game. How important is it to host that game at home rather than on the road as a wildcard. Yeah, that would be huge. We're gonna take him one at a time, Steve as you know how important that is and can't wait to play at home this weekend. It's so special for us to play in Buffalo in front of our fans, and especially this time of year, because we know where that leads us. And we're just gonna take them one week at a time, and it's important that we play our best game this weekend. And the Falcons are led by a former MVP, Matt Ryan. He's in his fourteenth season. What's the difference between preparing for a veteran like Matt Ryan versus a rookie like Mac Jones who you just played, Yeah, you know, you're probably not going to full Matt Ryan. He's seeing so many looks, so many defenses, so many pressure looks and disguises that it's very hard to go into a game or shape a game plan thinking you're gonna full a veteran quarterback like Matt So former MVP can make all the throws and just a smart, smart player. He's got them just on the brink of a possible playoff birth with their new coach, and they'll be fired up when they come here. All right, Coach, Thanks, good luck on Sunday. We'll be back next week to recap your game against the Falcons and preview your Week eighteen matchup against the Jets. And to everybody at home, thanks so much for watching.
