I had a hell of a job, man. Wait to stick to it, the whole game, the whole game. Man, that's not easy, right, that's the type of game we're go'll be in all the way through the rest of the way. Hey, that's one down right there, right, one down, one down. We know who's up next. We know who's up next. It's all about us, right, stay humble, how then needs to be saying? Man, we know what we need to do. We'll take what to day. Find in the way, find in the way every week. Hello foot, Buffalo Bill, no overthinking. All right, go play the ball. We'll play some football. An exciting time to be a Buffalo build of the fan of the Buffalo Bills. Welcome into Week sixteen of the Sean McDermott Show, presented by Connors and Farris, your workers comp attorney. I'm Steve Taskan. Of course, I'm pleased to be joined by head coach Sean McDermott. Coach, thanks as is for joining us. You guys bounce back in a big way against the Panthers. You put yourselves in the driver's seat for a shot at the division title. How does it affect your mindset now that you're in control of your own destiny. Well, I think it gives the players great motivation when they know that there's something in front of them and an opportunity more than anything in front of them. And even if there wasn't, obviously you want to play at a certain level all the time. But this is just added motivation and should add focus and energy to what we're doing down the stretcher. Well, let's start with a maybe one of your most important players, Josh. He had three passing touchdowns against Carolina, got him to thirty one on the seasons, the first quarterback in franchise history to have back to back seasons with thirty touchdowns. How do you think his experience last year has helped him prepare for this playoff push over the next couple of weeks. Yeah, I think it's big. Really, every experience that he's gone through it through the course of his career to this point is really added to his foundation and depths towards his development. And I think you're starting to see Josh really mature. He started off the game this past week a little erratic, call it, but he's really settled in and found his rhythm and I thought really played well. Yeah, a couple of those touchdowns of Josh's went to Gabriel Davis. He's got four touchdowns over the last three weeks, and Davis led your team with five catches for eighty five yards filling in for Emmanuel Sanders. How important is that numbered two receiver role in your offense given the amount of attention Steph Diggs gets every game. Yeah, I was just going to add that, right. Steph Days gets so much attention a week to week, whether it's with the top corner matching him or rolling a safety over the top of Steff. That that other position, the two the three receiver, whether it be Gabe, Emmanuel Cole and such an important part of what we're doing on offense. Well, Devin Singletary ran for a season high eighty six yards on a career high twenty two carries. His sixteen yard touchdown on the second quarter got things started for you offensively. He was virtually the only guy to run the ball besides Josh. How do you think using the one running back approach worked for your offense in this game? Yeah, I mean I thought they did a good job really sticking with Motor. Motor had the hot hand. Thought Motor you did a really good job as well, and some of the time, some of the plays opportunities where he didn't have the ball in his hand. Passing game in particular, and that's an important part of being an all around back and having that consistency and trust with our offense. Now, on the defensive side of the ball, you stop Carolina on four out of five fourth down tries, which really changed the moment of the game. How did it impact your defensive game plan once you realize they were without a place kicker and would be going forth the entire game. Yeah, you know, it sounds like it's a good thing, and it was a good thing for us because they become predictable to some extent. Although it's a little bit of a unique challenge because of the lack of the kicker and the four down opportunities that they have and what third down is going to look like as it relates to going for it on fourth down, so added opportunities. I'm sure there's some analytics people out there that love that approach, and I like our kicker on our ends, so we'll keep him as long as we can. At one point, Carolina was within one possession and Fa Obata came up with two huge sacks. The first one came on a second down and put them in a third and eighteen, and then two plays later he sat cam on fourth down to seal the game. What did you think of the game Fa had against his old team? Yeah, that was huge. I mean Fa being an ex panther, I know he was motivated going into that game, and we had a number of them out there, Fa, Vernon, Butler, Mario Addison, J. Klein, to name just a few. And great to see those guys play so well against their old team. Thanks, coach. We'll catch up with you a little later in the show to get your final thoughts on your upcoming matchup with the Patriots. The game plan is presented by Energy Mark, the official energy supplier to the Buffalo Bills. Game preview is presented by Independent Helm. You deserve the red shirt treatment, Maddi glab here with your Week sixteen game preview. Eight and six Bills are taking on the nine and five Patriots with the AFC's title on the line. The Patriots were riding a seven game win streak, but suffered a loss of the Colts coming out of their bye week in Week fifteen. If the Bills can win out the division is theirs, they'll be facing a Patriots team who's averaging twenty six point two points per game and has a plus nine turnover margin, both of which are top ten in the NFL. One of Mac Jones's favorite targets in the end zone right now is tight end Hunter Henry, who has nine touchdowns, which leads the NFL for tight ends. The Patriots defense is allowing a league low sixteen point two points per game and is one of the toughest teams to score on because they're limiting touchdowns in the red zone to just forty five point nine percent of the time. Josh Shellen is hoping for a similar performance to his last one in Gillette Stadium because last season he completed twenty seven of thirty six passes for three hundred and twenty yards and through for four touchdowns and a thirty eight to nine victory in Foxboro. Alan is also the only Buffalo Bill to ever have back to back seasons with at least thirty passing touchdowns. He has thirty one this season, which is top five in the NFL. The Bill's defense is allowing the fewest yards in the NFL only two hundred and eighty seven point nine per game. They've given up only eleven passing touchdowns, which is also the fewest in the NFL. New England leads the series against Buffalo with seventy seven wins and forty five losses. That's this week's game preview, Steve back to you, Thanks Mattie. Coach. You're facing the Patriots for the second time, this time with first place in the AFC East on the line. What did you learn from your first matchup that has prepared you for this game. Well, clearly, we've saw some of their run game. They turned the round and handed that ball out forty five times, which is unusual. So we've got a decent field for our defense against their run attack, and obviously we have to do some things there to get cleaned up so we can play better football. And then I think offensively, we saw some of how they want to defend our offense. So they're very multiple on defense, and I've got a very veteran, smart group that played well together, so it'll be a big challenge for us here. Yeah, in that first game, Mac Jones only threw a bowl three times. It's hard to believe that'll happen again. So how are you preparing to see a completely different offensive game plan from New England? Yeah, you know, that's a great question. You know, they've only played one game in between our game and now our second game, and we've played two, which is not a lot, but they have two additional games on us there with just one that we have on them. But I think, just overall, I was very impressed with what mac Jones did against the Colts, trying to bring his team from behind and showed a lot of poise, a lot of high level execution to bring his team back and almost go ahead and win the game. So a lot of respect for the start he's off to as a young quarterback in our league. All Right, thanks coach, good luck on Sunday. We'll be back next week to recap your game against the Patriots and preview your Week seventeen matchup against the Falcons. And to everyone at home, thanks for watching.
