But we're live right now. Hey, we're live. Everybody got not Let's go bury. Everybody do their job. What hellove well caliber defense, Let's go no overthinking, right, go play some ball. We'll play some football. It's an exciting time to be a Buffalo Bill and a fan of the Buffalo Bills. Hello, everybody, and welcome to the first episode of the twenty twenty Sean McDermott Show, presented by Connors and Ferris. Your workers comp Attorneys were once again joined by Sean McDermott, only this year, we're gonna do things a little bit differently. With all the restrictions due the global pandemic, Sean and I are gonna stay completely apart. I don't want to be that guy, So we're gonna do things from zoom and I hope you guys can all bear with us throughout this season. Hey, coach, how has everything changed your approached everything headed into this season? What all has changed? And what do you continue to learn now? It feels like a lot's changed. Just obviously we're you and I are distant right now and virtual. But as much as its changed, it seems like a lot of stayed the same. And so we're still coaching, the players are still playing, and we're working hard over here and and uh, you know, we're getting ready for the Jets. The thing that really changed more than anything was your ability to evaluate the players on your team. You had to cut down the roster. I know that's always a difficult time. You know, how did that go and how was that process different than it has been? Yeah, you know, I got a text the other day from one of our players that played here for a few my first couple of years, and he said, Hey, I appreciate you handling it the way you do, and and my response to him was, you know, even though I'm in year four and now I was a hey coach, those conversations don't get any easier. And I don't think I've found any better words to share with a guy in those meetings when we can tell them that we've got to go in a different direction. And so those are tough meetings, but obviously we've got to do us right for the team. And so I really appreciate Brandon support and his stat support as well as we moving forward to well, your quarterback, Josh Allen, He's coming off a great second year, a year when he took a real step forward. He you brought in some new offensive weapons to surround him with. What changes have you noticed in Josh and during camp and now that he's headed into his third year in the NFL. Yeah, and you hit the nail on the head Steve a third year, so there's a big jump between year two and year three. There was certainly a jump between year one and year two for Josh like there is for others. And very impressed with the way he's coming back, the way he worked over the offseason when he was away from us, and the way he's trusting his teammates. He does have weapons around him this year, and they've been a big addition to our roster, Stefan Diggs and a couple other guys on the offensive side in particular. But it all starts up front, as we know. It all starts up from We've got to have good protection and have the ability to run the ball as well. Well. You brought up his name, the new wide receiver, Stefan Diggs. You traded a first round pick plus some other stuff for him back in March. He's coming off back to back thousand yard seasons. What does Stefan Diggs bring to your offense. Well, I've been impressed, first and foremost Steve with the way he's integrated himself and earned the respect of his teammates. I think that speaks volumes about who he is. And then going forward, when you look at what he's been able to do on the football field, in the practice field, he works hard. He's a technician, you know, he understands how the game has played and how you have to play at this level to win games as the team. And so we're just looking forward to integrating him fully. Now we have a game this weekend into what we're doing offensively with the other weapons we already have. One of the foundational pieces of your defense has been your all pro cornerback Trey White. You're able to sign him to a long term extension. You're keeping them Buffalo through twenty twenty five. What does it say about your process and your team and your culture locking up a guy of his caliber, who who began his career here in Buffalo now for this foreseeable future, he'll stay right here. Yeah, very very refreshing to to be able to do that. You know, it starts up top, It starts with terrying Kim's commitment to winning and doing the things necessary for us to continue to win. And so having said that, you know, but I thought Brandon did a great job. Those things don't just happen over the course of a conversation or two. It takes a long time. And just great to be able to draft, develop, and then resign our part players. We want to we want to be able to know that and say that we do that. And these guys are homegrown and it's been great to see him make Buffalo his home and play at a high level and bring a lot of energy to our organization. It's been great for me too, and I can I can feel for you. That's awesome. Hey, we'll be back with you later in the show. You're gonna get some final thoughts about your Week one matchup with the Jets and all the other stuff that's going on. Thanks Sean, and we'll talk to you a little bit later. Game preview is presented by in Debt pending health You deserve the Red Shared Treatment Matti glab here with this week's game preview. The Buffalo Bills opened up the twenty twenty season with a home game against the New York Jets. While Buffalo returned several familiar faces, the Jets don't look nearly the same as last year. That might be a good thing for an offense that ranked thirty first in the league, averaging seventeen point three points per game. Quarterbacks Sam Donald enters his third season trying to stay healthy and build off last year when he threw for nineteen touchdowns and thirteen interceptions. Donald welcomes a cast of new weapons on offense, including receivers Forshad Perryman, first Hogan, second round pick Denzelman, and five new starters along the offensive line. Unlike the Jets, the Bills returned several starters. Quarterback Josh Allen heads into his third season coming off a year where he threw for twenty touchdowns and nine interceptions. Josh is looking to take a step forward with the addition of Stefon Diggs, who ranked fourth in the league last year, averaging seventeen point nine yards per reception and has scored twenty three touchdowns over the last three seasons. Buffalo also added two weapons from the draft, and why out Gabriel Davis and running back Zach Moss. The Bill's defense wants to take it a notch higher after their successful season in twenty nineteen, where they bring third in yards allowed per game, in second and points allowed with sixteen point two. They allowed only fifteen passing touchdowns, good for second fewest in the league, and corner Tredavious White type for a league high six interceptions. That's this week's game preview, Steve, back to you. Thanks as always, Mattie and Sean. You always want to start this season on the right note. You've got the Jets coming into Bills Stadium into town on Sunday. How do you set the tone for a week one when nobody's even seen what their jerseys look like, let alone who's playing for them. There's a lot of unknowns every week one, Steve, as you know, particular this year. So we've got to control what we can control as a team and as a coaching staff and go out and execute at a high level like we've been to this point in training camp. Albeit it's it's been against one another, so there will be some newness to the situation. But at the end of the day, the ball is kicked off, whether you're playing popcorner ball or junior high, high school, college, or in this case at the NFL. It's all it's football and uh and that's what we love to do. We're passionate about it. You can't wait to get out there and get it going well in a nod We all know this, and we're everybody's kind of holding their breath to Bill's mafia. Weren't be in the stadium on Sunday. You're gonna be there by yourselves and as you have no fans in the stands. Most of these guys have never played in an empty stadium. Maybe practiced, of course, but what's your message to your team gonna be when you go in there play a game that actually means something and nobody's gonna be there to watch. Yeah, I had a couple of the players come up and ask me jokingly, Hey, what's it like to play in an FT stadium? Because that's what I did in college. But but you know, so I appreciate the humor. They don't know my resume, I guess, you know, in terms of my playing career. But no, it's it's it'll be a challenge, but you know, we try to do our research, Steve and talking to different leagues that are out in front of it. By a couple of months, whether it be the NBA, Major League Baseball, professional soccer, so that we so that we are well versed in what to expect early on here. Thanks coach, We appreciate your time and we'll be back next week to wrap up the Jets game and look forward to the Miami Dolphins in week two.
