What the hell happened?

The Phillies offered Bo Bichette a seven-year, $200 million contract on Thursday. They thought they had him. Then – poof – he’s gone. Bichette stunned everybody in baseball, when he accepted a three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets instead.

The Phillies followed the massive disappointment by signing J.T. Realmuto to a three-year, $45 million deal.

The Phillies are 3-8 since the All-Star break, and they have scored zero or one runs in six of those games.Everybody sees what’s going on. Everybody knows what the Phillies need. Bryce Harper spoke candidly about it following Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to the Marlins in Miami.

“I think we need some help,” Harper said. “But you know, I think we've proved pretty much all year we've done a pretty good job. But anytime you can get some help in here and reinforcements, I think it helps.”

They need an outfielder, for sure. The Phillies have one of the worst outfields in franchise history right now. But they also need a No. 5 starter and a reliever. The pressure is on Dave Dombrowski to make it happen.
