The $50K major prize goes on the line from tonight and 13th-placed Dave Campbell is back from covering the Olympics give his insights and sob stories.
This is the Super Coach NURL Official Podcast Round Preview with Tom Sangster and Rob Sutherland. Hello, super coaches. It is the final game day preview podcast of the year. The fifty k is going on the line as of about seven to fifty pm tonight. We've got a huge guest for the final show, fresh back from Paris, back from the Olympics and currently thirteenth in Super Coach, Dave Campbell.
Hey, Tom, how are you going pretty well?
We missed you, man, but while you're overseas, your team was absolutely killing it up in the thirtiesh But I hear it could have been a little bit better.
It could have been a bit better I had. I thought the time difference would be a real problem for me. It wasn't too bad, but that final weekend when we were heading home, I did get caught out miscalculated the time difference, which resulted in me benching Harry Grant the week he got about one hundred and thirty kink. I had Ellie Katara on the bench, he scored a try, I got eighty something. I did the maths after lockout and if I had played them as I'd intended, I would have actually gone up into second.
Oh wow, that really hurts. So you could be in with a crack at the fifty k this weekend, although as a News Corp employee, you can't win anyway, so you know, potato potato.
It's better this way. It's better this way.
Imagine if you won and then couldn't claim the fifty k, you'd be spewing. It is such devastating moment. Speaking of devastating moments, there's going to be a lot for a lot of super coaches this week because the injuries are just all over the place. How many on the park for you this round?
I had I had nineteen until that late news yesterday that Dom Young's being rested, so I've got eighteen, which I'm happy with. But a lot of people out there saying they've only got about fifteen sixteen people, so it's tough. No trades left peace, we just have no wiggle room.
Yeah, I've got seventeen on the dot and that includes Danny Levi was actually okay on the weekend and got almost I think forty odd points and got some attacking stats in there and started. But he's been playing off the bench mostly and getting scores in the teens or sometimes even single digits. So I'm banking on Danny Levi to do something at least start this weekend.
Well, you know, he seems to be the he likes to try. Yeah, and that should get him to at least twenty Yeah, that's it.
Send three questions, guys. I'm just loading them up and now we don't have any question yet, So send them through and you're a good chance of getting them answered for the final round of the year. Make sure he subscribe to our podcast via Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you podcast will take some burning issues for tonight pain hass I just had to look before. He's still the eighth most purchase player even though he's not playing this week, so reverse that trade quickly.
Yes, bizarre as I saw that the other day as well, and I thought, I mean, it's been pretty well known that he's out, so I don't know. I don't know why people are jumping on there. I mean, especially with the Broncos the way they are at the moment, They're just broken. I don't know if I could trust any Bronco, whether it's payinhearts or not.
So I think the Broncos will get smashed tonight, even though it's at SUNCRP, given that they are depleted and the Storm are pretty close to full strength. There's no Papenhausen, but they've picked all their fit players, so big pod options here at the Storm. I mean Jerome Hughes, not a pod but very popular this week could be your VC. It could even go straight Sea on him.
Yeah, I mean he's Oh. It's a scary concept tonight, isn't it, Especially if you're a Broncos fan. If you were, if you were, if you had the trades and could load up on Melbourne Storm players, I think that's the team this week. They're the ones that could easily put on a cricket score and your week is off to an absolutely flying start.
Yeah. This is the match up to target alongside the Spoon Bowl. I think there's going to be a lot of points in the Spoon Bowl as well. It's just the Friday night second game of the round, so two early games that you can target with VCS. Tonight. I don't have Grant and I don't have Hughes, and I don't have Munster, and I'm worried about that, particularly Hughes. But I think I'm going to put the VC on early. Katoa and I hope you can jag a try.
Yeah. I've got Grant, Jerome and Katoa tonight, so I'm hoping that they all find the try line. But yeah, Katoa and especially you know the Broncos have conceded a lot of points at that, you know, in that part of the park, so I could see Katoa easily not just getting one, but maybe a couple. He could be in for a massive score to finish off the season.
Yep, let's hope. So only two questions in so far, guys, so send your stuff in any price for keyrings for top one thousand this year. No, there's no key rings this year unfortunately, just the prizes.
When was the last time we did kearing?
We did when we had KFC as the sponsor. I think we did it last year. Might not have been caring, it might have been socks. But in a way there was a prime. There was a prize for top ay eleven not this year. Captain on Brian To or Isaiah Yo A couple of interesting choices there. They're both if they got titans, so that's it.
They're both good target. I guess to oh for ceiling. You know if he can, if he can jag a couple of tries, then then he could be in for a massive score. Yo is really good, but he probably needs a try to get you into that that space where you're comfortable with him as a captain. He'll score amazingly well, but unless he gets a try, I don't see him as a captain.
And final question for now, Thomas King is asking last reserve out of Jade and Brayley, Greg, Marsu and Simmy say I'd say, notice Simmy say a straight and then you got Brayley and mars You both playing in. What is the game with the most to play for this weekend? It's the Top eight playoff between the Knights and the Dolphins. It's at home for the Knights. It's going to be sunny, it's going to be good weather. I think it's going to be attacking football. So I just lean towards mars You and I hope he can score a try. His base stats have actually been sensational all year. Really, I think there was twenty two runs, twenty one runs last week. His base stats are still good. He's just not getting the tries. Because just sharp is scoring them all on the other side of the field.
Yeah, I think Mars you for me as well, because I mean, look, Super Coach Grand Final, it's over. That was last week, so this week you're really just throwing the sinkat your overall ranking. So you've got to go for where the ceiling is. And MARSU if he gets a couple of tries like you're looking at potentially one hundred and thirty point game, you're just not really going to get that from Brayley. So if you're if you're going for ceiling, Myles user guy, I.
Did notice that the overall winner, who's what two hundred and forty points ahead looking good to collect that fifty k, does have Jaden Brayley in his team and he got eighty odd points or something in the weekend. Our code deal at the moment is a dollar for the first month, so I can get you through, just test it out, see if you like it over this final round and see what you reckon. And then we've got of course super Coach NBL which has launched, get involved with that. Then we've got the BBL and then super Coach General and AFL starts holding up again in January, so there's no real off season for super coaches. Best bet of the Week time brought to you by the tabs Eneral same game multi builds, smartest same game multis using stats and insights. Download the tab app today. Now I've targeting to night's game. I think the Storm will win by a lot. I've got them thirteen plus and Sua far a Longo to score a try playing fullback in place of Ryan Pappenhausen two dollars eighty. So I'm not really testing the boundaries. But I don't see the point in putting on twenty twenty to one bets, or like rob last week put on a three hundred to one bet. I don't, I'm not. That's putz.
I mean Robbie is laughing at you.
Oh yeah over there.
Now look, I've targeted tonight's game as well. I've got Melbourne to win by thirteen plus, which I think they'll get easily. And then I just every person from Melbourne that's in my team to score a try. Yeah, I've got Harry Katoa and Jerome Hughes all to score a try and that is paying twenty one dollars bucks.
That's not too bad, so he's a shot. Yeah, two different ways of approaching your punting this weekend. The only place to place those bets is on the tab app What is gambling really costing you? For free and confidential support, call that number on screen or visit the website now pods, these are the guys who can set you apart in the final week. I've got a couple on my list here. I might start with Terrell May, who has been very up and down in Super Coach. The reason he's been up and down is just because of minutes. When Maria Hargraves or you know, when their forward pack is close to full strength, May doesn't get the minutes and he's used as an impact guy. But they got Jared Ria Hargraves, Butcher and Radley all out this week. It expects some big minutes for Terrell May. His PPM is one point three to six for the season, which is pretty much unheard of. I haven't seen those sorts of numbers since the days of Andrew Forfeeder.
Yeah, I think he was. He was an auto emergency for me last week. Oh nice with an eighty six. So I think if if the minutes are there for him. He's a great score and like you said, with the kind of players the roosters are missing this week, he's a big chance of hitting those minutes.
Pod.
Yeah, I've got I've got a couple of got Ronaldo Milatalo. He's been obviously, he was named a couple of weeks ago for the Sharks, then he missed another week his name to start again this week. He's only in eleven percent of teams. He's he's a real hit and miss. But similarly to what I was saying about Greg Marsu with the Knights just a couple of minutes ago, he's a ceiling player. A couple of tries from him, he could he could bang out a one hundred, one hundred and twenty last week of the season. Go for it. I think he's a he's a really good player to if it comes off, then you're laughing.
Yeah, I don't hate it, but I'm not that into the matchup at four pints up against the Seagulls. It's a pretty pretty important game for both teams. Really, look when you look at where they are on the ladder. I also like Mike ah Siva in the spoonbile I reckon he could jag a couple of tries in that match and he's not well owned at all. He's a real roughie and the guy who I can't I'm seriously considering bringing in this week as a pod play is Mark and no Wanga Needa Wasi from the Roosters making his debut. The former Wallaby. I've got some stats on him, so it's only four hundred and seventy k. He's played three games in New South Wales Cup, averaging one hundred and seventy three meters, five tackle busts a game, one line breaker game. There's one try assist in there and two tries as well, so stat's pretty handy. And he's playing for the Roosters on Dom Young's wing. Dom Young being out is obviously a blow for super coaches, but no Wanga a Wasi is in a pretty good spot. Being a winger at the Roosters is good even with the injuries they've got this week.
It's just a shame he's playing this week and will potentially ruin his.
Price, So the start of exactly who you got as a pod.
The other person I've got is Sewer far Along at the at the Storm. He plays tonight Ryan pappenhow now, so he's stepping into that fullback role. He's only six percent of teams at the moment, and we've seen what he like, even those last few weeks where he's been playing out on the wing for the Storm. Whenever he touches the ball, he makes stuff happen. So the fact that he'll be fullback, roving both sides of the park, he could be in for a massive score. A lot of people who had Tom Treboyevich bringing in someone like Ponger, but if you want to go against the grain, I don't, And given the match up tonight, I think he's a really really good shot at a ton Yeah.
I don't hate that at all. I think that's a really good shout onto the no go zone. This is the trade that doesn't make sense, the popular trade that I can't get behind. For me, it's Nico Hines, who I think returned a little bit slowly from injury. It's going to take him a little while to get back into it, and it's not an easy matchup for him against the Seagulls at four pints. I would definitely be going someone like Jerome Hughes up against the Broncos to play the Broncos in a full strength team. I think he's a much better purchase than Nickohwins.
Yeah, I mean I love Nico, but he just if you have one negative thing to say about him, it's that he just doesn't seem to get up for those big games, those high pressure matchups. So I just I just don't know if I could go him this week for those same reasons that I think there's other options there. Who are he could go out and absolutely smash out one hundred and fifty points. That's always an option with Nico, but I think it's risky.
Yeah, I mean, he has probably been the best player in Super Coach over the last let's say three seasons, but I think it definitely looked like he was easing back last week.
Yeah, I mean they definitely Obviously the Sharks did change their attacking structure this year because they didn't want him to have to carry the whole team the responsibility of the whole team's attack, and we definitely saw that have an impact on him. Still banged out some massive scores, but that change in structure, coupled with the injuries is suffered this year as well. I think there's better option.
Who's your nogoz on?
A lot of people bringing in Dylan Brown, and he's not a bad option, but that I think feel like it's a bit of chasing last week's points. Got one hundred and sixty two last week in that crazy, crazy game against the Dragons, but that's his only ton this year. Yeah, and he's outside of that. The closest he's come is two nineties. He's been solid without being great, And so when you're looking at that position where you can bring in someone like Jerome Hughes, who's got a great match up tonight against the Broncos, I'm just not I don't see Dylan Brown out performing some of those other guys.
I tend to agree. I owned Dylan Brown, so I watch him probably closer than a lot of people. The matchup is good against the Tigers, but as you say, he's not a guy who goes huge. He doesn't get these big tons. He's a guy you bring in and you can bank on fifty to ninety every single week, and it's very rare that he bangs out there one hundred and sixty two like he did on the weekend, which is probably his high score ever. Super coach, and.
I mean they've played They played the Tigers early in the season. It was like quite early in the season, and he got I think it was about forty five against the Tigers. That was the start of the season. Everybody's energetic and keen, and you know this is for the wooden spoon basically, so the matchup could be better for him, but I still don't see it.
His three round average coming into last week was forty. Since Mitch Moses went down, he's essentially been stinking it up. So you've got to think think previous to that last week's.
Score, yees own him last week. Obviously you really enjoyed that one hundred and sixty two point haul, but I think that scores put some rose colored glasses over everyone else.
Captaincy this week, Tedesco at fifty two percent really popular for me. I can't go past Ponger at twenty five percent. Tedesco. Look, you can see two sides to this. Yes, with the injuries, you'll probably do more in that team. Also, the attacking output for the Roosters is probably a bit limited with all the injuries at the club. So I'm willing to take Teddy on it's at Akor Stadium, so it's not at his favorite Alian stadium. It's against the rabbit Oos who were stinking it up, but still there is this local rivalry that the rabbit Oos could get up for. For me, it's all on Ponger in a game that just means so much to him. And we know when pong has fired up and motivated, he always goes well.
Yeah, I think Teddy, I mean, you never write him off, but I think you obviously. I mean they lost half spine last week. You know with those you know, Sam Walker out, Brandon Smith out, those important positions to the attacking structure of a team, and they really lost their way the back end of that game against the Raiders last week, they were just roosters, were just going side to side and hoping something would happen. Obviously they've replaced those players this week, but is it enough time for that attack to click back into what it needs to be. I think it's risky and like you said, Ponger twenty five percent on captaincy at the moment and finals are on the line, I can see Ponger demanding the ball because he'll feel he needs to make it happen for the Knights and that could be a massive score.
Yep, I'm really all over Ponger this week. Lomax at two point four percent is probably the real RAFFI if you need something crazy a bit later in the round at the Vice Captaincy. The numbers seem strange to me because you've got that Homes twenty five percent. I think that's a bit of a hangover from last week. We have that good matchup up against the Doggies. We've got the best defense in the camp at at Core Stadium, which is where you know, it's their home ground. I don't see the point in Homes. I think you've got to switch that up to Jerome Hughes, probably if you own him. Unfortunately I don't, so I've got to go with Eli Katowa Intonight's game.
Yeah. I mean, and we're seeing that the Cows aren't the best travelers and you know, like you said, not only traveling, but up against the best defensive side in the comp this season. I think that, like you said, it's probably just people who haven't made a decision yet from last week. But you know, Hughes there at twelve percent, I think that's bang on the money early game tonight, great matchup against the Broncos. You could go anyone in that storm side really as well. If you've got Harry Grant, that's not a bad shout either.
You know who I think is a decent pod is Nick meaning probably kicking goals? Yeah, center, so could get some tries and he hasn't scored a lot of recent tries, so it could be in for a bag tonight. Plus kicking goals.
Probably scored fifty points alone in goal.
He honestly could, so I don't mind Nick Meani as a purchase. Questions till the end of the show. Who has been your ray Gun of the year? How do we define right?
Yeah? How do you define disappointment or the person with the craziest.
I know who knows my biggest sort of disappointment.
There were some early season disappointments that peop dead would that you just cut, Like Sam Hughes I put in there, Sam Hughes is my ray Gun.
I still think ray Gun was smart to do what she did because she knew she wasn't going to win. She just did something that was a bit out there. And now she's getting interviews on the project presumably paid, she'd be on Dancing with the Stars, She'll.
Be whatever network gets. Then you just see her on SAS Australia.
She's probably going to make a fair bit of coin out of it. Good honor. Biggest regret of the year, I haven't really probably. I try to put those bad moments behind me.
Just block them out. Oh my biggest I know, My biggest regret was captain in Garrick that week he double hi ate himself. Oh yeah, sorry, that's that's unfair on Garrick. He didn't double hi himself, Christian to a Pilato.
That was while you're watching your dragons play that your captain went downs, went down twice.
That's my biggest regret the week I captain him.
Luke, you're saying Hughes for vice captain and Teddy for captain. Yeah, that's probably. That seems like the most popular thing this week. And that's about it. Big thanks to everyone for watching this year. Big thanks to Dave back from Paris and in thirteenth spot. So will eagerly wait and see how you finish up this year. Big luck to anyone in the top ten, particularly is Bryce's boys coming number one, who is two hundred and forty points head. Good luck to everyone, and we'll catch you next week, hopefully with a podcast with the winner. We'll see you then
