The official opening of the Wits Roy McAlpine Burns Unit happened earlier today at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. This R100 million donation has enabled the expansion of the only public burns facility in Gauteng to provide the specialist skills required to treat 750 patients annually from South Africa and Africa who are referred for burns caused by boiling water, fire, acid, electricity and paraffin, amongst others in SA’s ‘epidemic of trauma’.
