According to the International Labour Organisation - trade unions in most advanced capitalist countries have steadily lost members for decades, as they struggle to adapt to changes in the economy and society. On the other hand, one cannot downplay the importance of trade unions as they enable workers to come together as a powerful, collective voice to communicate with management about their working terms and conditions, and to push for safe, fair and decent work.
