Yesterday, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) held a press briefing on governance and operational challenges faced by the organisation. Worryingly the organisation is owed R45 billion in outstanding student loans. The organisation’s board chairperson, Karen Stander also revealed that a critical trust deficit exists between NSFAS, higher education institutions, student bodies, and students - with all of these contributing to organisational turbulence.
