PwC’s latest Directors Remuneration and Trends report shows median CEO remuneration increased 9% to R23.2 million, while CFO pay rose 7% to R13.5 million, largely driven by performance-linked bonuses and long-term incentives. With shareholder support for executive pay strengthening, the findings raise questions about whether these increases reflect genuine value creation, how they compare with ordinary workers’ earnings and whether companies are doing enough to address pay inequality and the lack of diversity in top leadership positions.
