Maphefo Anno-Frempong's journey to becoming CEO of one of South Africa’s
most prominent SETAs, the Transport Education and Training Authority
(TETA), began in the classroom, where her passion for education was first
ignited.

Starting her career as a teacher, Maphefo quickly realised the transformative
power of education, not only for individuals but also for entire communities.
This realisation fuelled her pursuit of higher learning and skills development,
eventually leading her to key roles in the transport and logistics sector.

Her transition from teaching to leadership was driven by a commitment to
creating opportunities for others, especially women. As Maphefo advanced,
she was mentored by influential leaders who recognised her potential, giving
her the chance to thrive in male-dominated industries. Today, she embodies
the concept of Lift as you Rise, supporting and empowering others to reach
their full potential.

Privately, Maphefo champions young women, working tirelessly to ensure
they have the opportunities she once received. Her dedication extends to an
orphanage that houses girls rescued from trafficking, where she actively
supports their rehabilitation and empowerment. Maphefo’s heart for young
women is unwavering, and her efforts to give them the breaks they need are
a testament to her enduring belief in the power of opportunity.

In recognition of her tireless work, Maphefo was recently honoured with the
EmpowaWomen Lift as you Rise award, a fitting tribute to her outstanding
commitment to the empowerment of women. Her leadership at TETA,
coupled with her personal dedication to mentoring and uplifting young
women continues to leave a lasting impact on the industry and beyond.
