This Heritage Month, we’re celebrating something that brings all of us
to the table — food! Joining us is chef, cookbook author and food
content creator Thilivhali “Mash” Mugwena, founder of Meals With Mash. Born and raised in Venda, Limpopo, her love for food started right at home before eventually taking her from a career in finance into the culinary world. 

Today, through Meals With Mash, she’s putting South African flavours,
family recipes and heritage on the menu — while also showing us that
traditional food can evolve without losing its roots.

Today, the 7 th of September is the first Monday of Heritage Month, so,
starting on this day, and for the next few Mondays, our How-To Series will be a Heritage Month edition, dedicated to learning as much as we can about being South African. We begin with a lesson in beading, today a look into how traditions are created by those who exist at that time and how we can
create our own traditions using traditional beading methods to weave affirmations into a keychain. Our instructor for this workshop is Andria Cindi, a sustainable visual artist with a background in fashion. Her work is at the intersection of traditional crafts, spirituality and slow fashion design. She

HOW TO-BEAD

As the days get warmer and get closer to Spring, this is the best time to
identify new hobbies that will get us out of the house, get our bodies
moving, and meet new people. Today, we are learning How-To do the
Kizomba dance. This is a partner dance genre that apparently originated in
Angola in the 70s. It is also a genre of music. Our instructor is Kharoline
Sinankwa; an Afro-Latin events curator, dancer and cultural connector. We
