A 25 year overnight success!

Tim Smith used to work alongside Australian Rock Royalty. Being around the likes of Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil, music was his journey. Soon enough after expecting his first child, he grabbed some casual work at Yalumba, stayed there for almost two decades, and decided it was time for the Tim Smith name (and thumb print) to be on a label.

Today we are recording inside his brand new winery on the first day of crushing on the new site. It’s been four years of planning, and finally the day has arrived.

The Maker & The Drinker is a journey of people and wine. John Retsas, The Maker from award winning South Australian First Drop Wines and Jarrod Walsh, The Drinker speak to a vast array of people and chat about not only their wine experience, but also how they got to be the person they are today. In each chat, the boys will educate you about the wine from the growing to the pouring, while learning more about their guest and their life.

This winery is one of the most divine in Australia and the man behind it, Charlie Melton sure has a tale to be believed.  After a failed trip to Uluru and ending up in the Barossa Valley, a toss of the coin decided his path onwards and now we sit in a Church on his property, tasting decades of their famous Shiraz. 

The man behind this iconic wine is a down to earth, hardworking bloke whose ute has over 200,000km’s on it. Join us as we are captured by the story of Charles Melton Wines.
