2020 marks the 160th Anniversary of the Arrival of the first Indian Indentured Labourers to the shores of South Africa.
Varshan had the pleasure of hosting distinguished community stalwart, Mr. Jaisingh Surujbullee Singh, President of the 1860 Indentured Labourers Foundation Verulam, to educate listeners about the concept of ‘Girmit’ and the reasons as to why Indians left their homeland in the 1800s to settle in foreign countries.
