Five men have appeared in court charged over the “planned and organised” torture of a man at a property in west Dublin. A special court sitting on Sunday evening heard that the victim was branded nine times with the word “rat” by a custom-made cattle iron and subjected to further acts of disturbing violence.

The former DUP leader is on trial at Newry Crown Court for alleged historical sexual offences. The 63 year-old has pleaded not guilty to 18 alleged offences.
