This week’s guest in the Hot Seat is Mary Machen – who is retired after 40 years as a print media journalist.

Mary began her career on a cadetship at the Launceston Examiner, and later reported for the Gold Coast Bulletin before moving to Sydney where she worked for some of the nation’s major publishers. She returned to Launceston in 2002 and has spent the last 15 years of her career in senior roles at the Examiner.

In retirement Mary actively supports local cultural and community organisations and major local events, such as Festivale, Junction Arts Festival and the Tamar Valley Writers Festival.
