Nicky Hager is back with a new book taking aim at one of the country’s most prominent lobby groups, the Taxpayers’ Union. 

He alleges the organisation has played a key role in shifting New Zealand politics to the right, claiming they worked with the tobacco industry and focused on race-based campaigns. 

The NZTU’s director Jordan Williams flatly denies the allegations and has said the book is full of inaccuracies. 

So, what exactly is Hager claiming, what evidence does he have, and what does the book tell us about the political landscape heading into this election?
