(00:00 - 23:44) - Thursday's Kevin & Query kicks off with Jake almost being late to the show! An accident on Meridian slowed him down but he made it into the studio at just the right time. The big news this morning is that Jarace Walker is reportedly injured. A Woj tweet revealed that he has elbow surgery. Walker is expected to still be ready when training camp starts later this year. Somebody won the Powerball last night. What do modern players think of training camp compared to older players?
(23:45 - 28:20) - Morning Checkdown
(28:21 - 43:27) - A quick Huey Lewis memory from Jake. Saquon Barkley appeared on the Money Matters podcast yesterday and had some harsh words for the New York Giants organization, claiming he could potentially just choose to sit out the 2023 season. Do Barkley's actions and words give or take power away from Jonathan Taylor and his negotiating power with the Colts. Despite Daniel Jones's improvement at quarterback, Barkley is still the Giants main offensive weapon and that has to count for something.
(43:28 - 1:09:59) - Rick DeMulling former Guard for the Indianapolis Colts calls in to the program to talk about the team's upcoming training camp. DeMulling had a unique experience as a player coming to Indianapolis as summer humidity didn't really effect him in the Pacific North West. He describes the Midwest weather as "hoping you don't die." At what point did he stop looking over his shoulder in training camp and did he ever feel like he didn't have to take training camp as seriously. Great back and forth between Jake and Rick about players mental health and how it shows over the course of a season. DeMulling gives his opinion on joint practices and if they are beneficial to a team.
(1:10:00 - 1:28:53) - Scott Agness of the Pacer's Fieldhouse Files comes on the show to discuss the Jarace Walker news regarding his elbow surgery. Agness has to first describe what "loose bodies" are, those being the reason for Walker's surgery. Agness says that this really isn't much of a story, plenty of players go through minor operations like this from season to season and it doesn't get picked up by media. Agness moves on to give the highlights of the Pacers summer league, the performances of Bennedict Mathurin and Isaiah Jackson were impressive to him. George Hill has been very open about his desire to play at least one more season with the Pacers, but the team still has to make room for him. After, Hill has a strong desire to be involved with the team in a different capacity.
(1:28:54 - 1:34:25) - Indiana State Fair Ticket Giveaway.
(1:34:36 - 2:04:22) - Zak Keefer, the NFL writer for The Athletic joins the show. His segment opens up with a lot of talk about his new position with The Athletic, covering the NFL as a whole instead of just the Colts. Keefer teases several stories he has a level of excitement about writing. His new position will include a lot of profiles including a story on Adam "Pacman" Jones. Jake asks Keefer to detail more on the process of writing a profile on a person he is not familiar with personally and how he builds a raport with them. Blake Martinez is apparently retiring from the NFL to sell Pokemon Cards. How long can the Colts rely on Jonathan Taylor while Anthony Richardson develops at quarterback. Keefer stresses that Indianapolis has to fix the infrastructure around Richardson quickly in order for him to succeed.
(2:04:23 - 2:12:34) - Pop Quiz
(2:12:35 - 2:21:10) - The Colt's alternate jersey is being revealed today. Jake and Marc run down some of their favorite NFL jerseys of all time.
