South Africa is set to get a R292 million supercomputer, promising a major boost for AI, scientific research, weather forecasting and healthcare. The new system is expected to be about three times more powerful than Lengau, South Africa’s existing national supercomputer, which is used by researchers for complex calculations and data intensive scientific work. At the same time, TikTok has agreed to pay US$400 million to settle allegations that it violated children’s privacy laws in the US.
