South Africa has officially emerged as Africa’s leader in AI adoption, according to new Microsoft research, showing that more people and businesses in the country are embracing artificial intelligence tools faster than anywhere else on the continent. At the same time, the global AI race has intensified after a US jury ruled against Elon Musk in his high-profile lawsuit against OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT. The case reignited questions around ethics, profit, regulation and who should ultimately control the future of AI. To unpack this, we’re joined by tech expert Olivier Tshimbidi.
