Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life — from the surveillance systems used in estates and office parks, to the AI tools many people now rely on at school and in the workplace. Now, South Africa’s Information Regulator is proposing stricter rules on how gated communities collect and store personal data, with the public invited to submit comments on the draft code by Thursday. At the same time, a new international study is raising concerns that overreliance on AI could weaken critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
