years since the 1976 Uprising. The event, broadcast on SABC 2, honours the
youth and cultural pioneers who shaped South Africa's journey to freedom.
2. National Arts Council Dissolved Minister Gayton McKenzie has dissolved the
National Arts Council with immediate effect, citing financial incompetence,
governance failures, and dodgy procurement decisions. The move comes as a
month-long employee strike continues to leave South African artists in limbo.
3. Day of the African Child Ma Afrika, June 16th is also the International Day of
the African Child — celebrated since 1991 to honour the youth of the Soweto
Uprising. This year's theme calls for universal access to clean water, sanitation,
and hygiene for every child on the continent.

Domestic workers play a crucial role in South African households, often caring for families and maintaining homes, yet many continue to face low pay, long hours, and unfair or unsafe working conditions. The Dignity in Every Homecampaign is a national initiative aimed at promoting fair, safe, and lawful working environments in private homes. It also provides practical guides to help
employers understand their legal and ethical responsibilities. To unpack this campaign and the realities of domestic work, we are joined by Maggie Mthombeni, a former domestic worker and Case Manager at Izwi Domestic Workers Alliance.
