Doug riffs about the big political controversy of the week. Doug reacts to Tom Izzo's take on NIL. Doug chooses among deserving candidates Jason Stewart deems as most annoying today. Plus, Lebron James makes today's edition of "Because We Can".
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Here's in the bonus with Doug gottli What.
Up Doug Gottlieb Show.
In the Bonus Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in do dead You know, It's it's always interesting when things that you think, uh, you found something cool, and then it becomes kind of mainstream, and you know, there's all these different messaging apps. And I never use WhatsApp until I anytime I've been overseas. Right, it's for whatever reason, it's easy to communicate via the app. You make phone calls and even even when recruit foreign players, we use what's WhatsApp.
But there's an app called Signal.
I guess my question is to you, Jason, did you know what Signal was before the last couple weeks?
Uh?
No, not until this week. I have no idea what signal listening?
Sam? You did?
Yeah, family has been using Signal for a few months now. So it's like a nonprofit either at they ask you to donate to every donate donate to.
It every once in a while. And yeah, so I have used it.
Uh.
Well, it's an encrypted app and you can well The interesting part about it is, if you haven't heard of it, Pete.
Headset And is Secretary of Defense.
Secretary of Defense, Pete Heggseth.
Yeah yeah, so Pete Headseth, he got he and.
Yeah yeah.
So they were on this text chain where Pete Headsjeth basically said like, hey, drone strike come in and there's some discussions over why to do it, should they do it now, when to do it, et cetera, et cetera, and then some exact details on what they're doing and how they're doing it as they're taking out these people that are the is it the who set or something like that, I don't know, who are like pirates at the Suez Canal. Anyway, it's really interesting if you see it, and it's part of some of these hearings on Capitol Hill. And what I find to be really funny is like Tulsi Gabbert, who's people said she was a Russian spy, like I don't know, and then she used to be a Democrat and now she's a she's in a cabinet position for the Republican White House. Like the whole thing's crazy. Anyway, she literally said, I think yesterday that there's nothing discussed in terms of any details of anything military. And yeah, She's basically like, hey, it's a big nothing burger.
And then.
Somebody from I think the Atlantic screenshotted it put it out on social media, and then today she was like, yeah, I just didn't I had no recollection of any of that, and they're like, yeah, it was two weeks ago. But the big takeaway was your takeaway, Jaystu. Which is quite a week for Signal, Right.
Big week for Signal. I bet it's got a lot of subscribers. Just to clean up a couple of the details there. The US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, he started the group chain. He was the one who responsible for including a liberal reporter on a group text with a bunch of these cabinet members. Pete Hegseth is the Secretary of Defense and Congressman what's his face today, the head congressman guy. He called for his job today, but he was not responsible for this group text. And you're right, Telsey Gabbert was on the Hill yesterday addressing this with a bunch of congress people. So anyways, big week four Signal. I didn't know about it. I don't know if I'm gonna go on it, but I think a lot of people have the chum is in the water. For the left, the Republicans seem to go into defense mode and try all the pr tactics, all the gymnastics. I think it would have been best, and I've seen this commentary from even right wing pundits. It would have been best if they would have just come out yesterday and say we fucked up.
Yeah, yeah, why not, we just fucked up? Ah my bad? I thought.
You know what's crazy about it is signal is they also have that disappearing thing like, so you can send texts that then like disappear and none of this should be out there. The whole thing is weird, but it is a great snapshot into Wow, the group text do exist. And I also think that the other part too, it is it doesn't matter if you're one of the annoying guys like Jasewo that's Android. They don't You don't have the green or the blue in terms of are you Apple or are you Android?
Yeah, you don't have to worry about that.
On Signy, you don't have to worry about that at all. You're a CEE. You're all signal app.
Guys, it's basically just a very stripped down texting app where you know, it's nonprofit. A lot of journalists use it because it's encrypted, it's secure, it's very it's very simple. Like it's just basically a universal texting app. We can share documents, you know, pictures, all that stuff.
Apparently can share national secrets too.
And the other part to it is, I actually, I know you're you're not supposed to and he may lose his job because of it. But to your point, Jase too, and he just said like, yeah, I mean there's some date, there's some times in there, but it was I thought it was a private message and I shouldn't have put it out there. But it's not like they said specifically what the exact target location is and the satellite coordinates and it's coming here and give them a day in advance to move some people out of the way. Should you have done it? No, But by lying about it then it makes you like, Okay, if they're lying about this, what else they lie about?
Yeah? By the way, I don't think he's going to lose his job. Our King Jeffreys is the one who call him for his job of course he's a Democrat. The Republicans, if they do one thing very well, is that they defend their own. They circle the wagons. I don't think anyone's losing their job on those thing. Everyone got, everyone got through the approval proms with after all those fireworks in the first place. I don't think anyone's losing their job. But I think it's just a bad look. It's just a bad walk.
You don't think everybody's losening there.
And again I don't think you lose your job necessarily over it, but I do think remember they came after Hillary over the emails, okay, over a server, and and you know, and hag Seth was on Fox News and then it's and he also again it's not the crime, it's the cover up of the crime. Like this just happened, and they just got approved, and like they've been in office, like I don't even know if the name plate is up yet, and they already got caught. Like perjuring themselves on Capitol Hill is crazy, crazy. She perjured herself and then he quite obviously lied when he was interviewed.
You know, it's amazing, and.
I don't what a weird word. It's like duror World dur perguer.
Well, it's interesting because when you purge, you throw up, and when you perjure yourself, you.
Lie, So lying is equated to vomiting.
Yeah, it's weird.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Let's get what the Fox Says? And now.
What does the Fox Say?
Every day this time of the Doug Gottlieb Show. In the Motus podcast, you play for your previous portion of a show from Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One, we call it what does the Fox Say? Here's Dan Patrick and Tom Izzo talking about the current college game.
You got these coaches who are saying, I can't, I don't want to do it anymore. You know, it's transfer portal nil and it's just not the way it once was. So what's motivating you to continue.
To do this stubbornness? Be honestly, it's total subness. I still love what I do. I don't like what has gone on. I don't think anybody does. To be very honest with you, and you know, some say it, some don't say it, But right now I've taken a better, better stance with myself. For a couple of years, I was on all those committees, and I just kind of gotten off where I don't worry about my team and not worry about all the things that I can't control. And unfortunately, nobody can control what's going on right now. There is no control. That saddens me for our profession, but it is what it is. So when in Rome do like.
The Romans, you know, I think I think it's actually fair. I it's interesting. People have asked me all year, why do you Why are you running into this fire when others are running out? And my thing is, you know, I wasn't part of the old system. There's lots of parts I don't love. I will tell you though, at the end of the day, it is still about coaching kids and helping them accomplish their dreams, and I'm all for it, and I'll do the best I can within it. For somebody like Tom that's been so successful for so long doing it, I would assume that at least a portion of why he keeps doing it is because he wants to go out on top and this maybe it be a team that can go out on top. But I love the answer in terms of stubbornness being the reason why he has yet yet.
To hang it up.
Here's Rob Parker and Kevin Washington talking about the Giant signing Russell Wilson.
You gotta remember this is about trying to survive. You have a coach and a general manager who's in a bad spot.
But what I'm hearing me out, let me finish my thought, because I get you saying. My only point is I think it looks worse if you start off with Russell Wilson, you sold this hope, we got a veteran guy, and you end up one in five. Whereas if I'm two and five with your door, but we're going somewhere I've seen some I'm like, I'm I'm optimistic as a fan, like, all right, baby, here we go. We're two and five, three and five something like that with your door. Then if I see Russell and it looks like the end of the Steelers, it looks like what it was with the Broncos, I'm like, ah, to me, that man, get out. I'm tired of this is the best I can do. And I'm because.
You're being optimistic with shador and And I'm just saying, like, you know, when Russell Wilson first showed up in Pittsburgh after the injury, he played really well.
That's a good team, you know what I'm saying, That's a team that happened. I'm just saying, he played really well. He could throw the ball downfield. There's a lot of piece like he could still play. And all I'm saying to you is I understand is totally.
Yeah.
I don't think he can still play. I just I just I just don't. I don't think he can still play. If he can still play, then any of the previous the Steelers would have held held on it just can't.
It would be more options. There would be more options. That's what the Fox said say.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekday hes at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Let's find out who are what is annoying? Jason Stewart.
And now it's your annoying.
Jay su Who are what's annoying you? Today?
At the aggregators, the main NFL aggregators. Here's the frustrating part for me. I don't expect any listener to relate to this, but just to kind of give you what I go through. There are a list of aggregators. One name Dove Climbing, the other mL Football, the other is JPA Football, and then there's this guy Ari Myrov at My Sports Update. They're the guys that send out NFL content twenty four to seven, a ton of NFL content, and they have upwards of a million followers between the four of them. Here's the problem. After cam Ward had his Pro Day this week, you saw Dove Climban and Ari Meirov and JPA Football being like cam Moore destroyed his pro day. Look at this throw. Now. We had Daniel Jeremiah on the show today. He's one of a handful of guys, maybe dozens of guys that I would actually respect if they looked at a video of a player and told me how good he is. Everybody else you don't have that right. You cannot eyeball video from a pro day and tell me he dominated his pro day. I think you're way out of your league on this one. Dove Climban, Ari Meirov at My Sports Update, mL Football and JPA, you're all on blast.
Well, you did let one big aggregator off the hook, right, you did let one aggregator off the hook.
Do you know who that is?
No, what is it?
I mean pro football talk, right, I mean pro football talk. He's he has he had his own content. Yeah, but he's been an aggregator.
For years years.
He's like the aggreg he's like the aggregator in chief. He kind of created the aggregator circuit, if you will. All those guys are phonies to the actual bow to the king of aggregation.
So yeah, I.
Don't I if you have content of your own, have content of your own, if it's somebody else's content. I apparently there's big business in aggregating sending you to somebody else's site.
At that part, I don't get.
It's it's pretty easy though, Like everyone has the same video of cam Ward and you're thirsty for putting out anything, any football content you want. Just put the video out and say cam Ward had his Pro Day today. I don't need the opinion that he did great just by eyeballing video. I know you're not qualified. You have zero credibility.
Uh.
Another guy that I think is losing credibility with the with the national media, and he's been getting a lot of heat. I think your guy mad Dog defended him today on first take. But he's like one of the few I've seen a lot of people of influence kind of take Danny Hurley to task. We all remember this exchange right Sunday. All right, So that's Danny Hurley after the game telling the next team, I hope the refs don't fuck you like they fucked us. It seems pretty simple in a vacuum, but it's just the latest of many things that Danny Hurley has said or done on the court that I think are not what would you say of the of the sanctity or are not of the of a head coach somebody who runs a program. I think he gets away with a lot of stuff because he wins. This week, there was a report that Yukon. I guess the report was pretty secure because the actual reporter said that the Yukon sid office threatened to ruin his life over just putting out that video. I think that makes the Yukon look awful and Danny Hurley, I think is probably is starting to get the criticism he deserves. I guess what's annoying is that he's been he's it's gone this far, and he doesn't get criticized enough.
Yeah, I'm a little torn on this one.
Okay, I'm gonna disagree with you.
I just you know, there have been some moments post games where I have said some things to an official where I didn't I bit my tongue. Now, look, do I think he's way over the top, Yeah, yeah, you know. Do I think he's feeling himself. Yeah, But videoing and putting out what he said to the Baylor of players when he was hot coming off the court, and by the way, he didn't think it was a huge play. He didn't think it was a foul. And this is part of what makes Danny Danny. I do think he's got the criticism. I don't think he's avoided it. He got a lot before they were good. Then even while they were good, he got attention for it. And I think that's kind of part of the issue there is that as they were winning back to back national championships, it was it became a oh well, he's just quirky, where it's like if you're a sideline the Korum guy, his just isn't isn't appropriate. But the what said in a tunnel. I don't think that.
Gets broadcast out either. I just don't. I just don't.
You know, there's a I have videos somebody sent me. You know, when I was walking off the court, I said, twenty five hundred dollars a game, and you didn't blow your your whistle once? You know, you just didn't. So I uh, I gotta tell you. I don't think. I don't like. Do I think that they need to threaten? No, I don't think they need a threaten. But do I think that that should have been broadcast? I don't. But again, in fairness, he knows he's on camera, he knows people paying attention to him, he knows he's When you're a two time defending national championship coach, you know there's a little bit more expected of you. This is where I will have your side that I'm sure you're just a little tired. You're tired of the act in the over the top stuff.
I just think that the world that I was searching for earlier, it's just not becoming of the head coach of a program. I just right.
But again, but that's kind of for whatever reason, that's what's sort of happened in society, right, like take a look at our administration and some of the language even on debates, debates, debates, or you know who is representing our country in different fields like those would all we've lowered the bar so substantially we should be surprised.
Yeah, but it's not going to be any less annoying annoying to me. The revenge games, the concept of the revenge revenge games, it's a big thing that's played up in the media. Right, such and such returns to such and such for his first game against such and such, and a big deal is made of it. Yesterday, Jimmy Butler was going to return to Miami and show him what they missed. It was a huge dud there were he didn't play very well, Golden State lost, And I just want to get into the concept of revenge games. Very rarely do they ever warrant the hype and very ever do they live up to the hype. Revenge games are like on on NFL schedule release day, that's a big thing with talk show hosts. Get your pencils out and circle the eight because so and so is returning to this city on November thirteenth. Circle the date. First of all, nobody circles dates on the calendar anymore. Nobody has a calendar. Nobody's circling dates. I think we just need to kind of put an end to the over hyping of revenge games. It's like you're telling me, there, I just can't find an angle that's interesting, so I'll go back to the lazy topic of revenge games.
Yeah, I mean, and the revenge game thing is so interesting because there's such so much less animist than there ever used to be. Guys seem to switch teams and have less less connection there used to be. I'm with you that that does become annoying.
So the media over hyping revenge games, the uh dork aggregators telling us that Camward killed his program.
Yeah, crushed it.
He killed Jason.
They're not aggregators for you, they're aggravators.
Oh way, what was the other one? U?
Danny Hurley? Who you disagree with?
I look, I disagree with I agree with the general premise of the take. I disagree with the what they put out there in terms of them walking in the tunnel and saying something to the Baylor players. The aggregators, No way, they're agitators. Those are the guys that are an.
Why are we.
Doing this.
Because we can?
We talked on the radio show about Lebron James. He did a rare appearance on a live show today Pat McAfee, and they talked about steven A and then towards the end of his steven A answer, he used a bad word. So this is Lebron James using a bad word.
He's gonna be happy as hao.
He's gonna be smiling from ear to ear when he hears me.
Talking about him.
Oh my god, he's going to get home and grab some ice cream out of the fucking sit in his chair and his tiny whities on the couch.
I hope you.
I hope at some point you too do get in You're like they were like.
Relax, bro like relax, like seriously, you know.
It's interesting. Uh.
I thought the interview was fairly unbecoming of a guy at his stature. Uh I could be wrong again, This is kind of part of what you said about your annoying guys that punch down, take shots at Brian Windhorse, worry about internet trolls. Like I thought you'd think you're the greatest basketball player ever aren't you above that?
Yues not? Why could we play it for you? Because we can't. That's it for the In the Bones podcast.
I got the radio show every day three to five Eastern told specific Fox Sports tradio.
I heart radio app. I'm Doug Gotlieg
