The challenges triggered by the pandemic led to global supply chain disruption. Subsequent financial and geo-political upheaval resulted in, amongst others, high energy costs and rising inflation labour costs. A recipe for disruption in any sector, but particularly the automotive sector, which has been experiencing fundamental change.

With a sharpened focus on environmental impacts at both consumer and governance levels, coupled with a drive towards adopting new technologies, those operating in the automotive market continue to endure turbulent times.

How The Automotive Sector Is Adapting To Change (and What Happens If It Can’t)

One of the UK Government’s first Covid 19-related interventions, in order to limit the harsh effect of lockdown on businesses, was to protect tenants from action by landlords to recover rent arrears. It was apparent that at some point the problem of the accrued debt had to be tackled, and in early 2022 the Government’s proposed answer to this issue, the Commercial Rent (Coronavirus) Bill is expected to be considered by Parliament. James Davison, a partner in our Restructuring team, talks to Huw Dolphin about the Bill, his own interest in sectors affected by this issue and his insights for 2022.
