Colin’s joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down the top NFL headlines.
They start with Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah being fired and point to animosity behind the scenes in Minnesota with the coaches and some bad draft choices…especially JJ McCarthy as the reasons why (3:30). Colin argues that while the organization has supported McCarthy publicly, behind the scenes there’s a serious lack of confidence in him (9:30) and Kwesi took too much time away during training camp in a business where grinding is paramount (14:00).
They discuss which of the new coaching hires will be viewed as a success in 5 years: Colin points to Raiders new head coach Klint Kubiak as a hit and John agrees and argues that if needed, the Raiders could trade Maxx Crosby for a haul that could help reset the franchise (22:30).
Colin tries to identify other quarterbacks that were labeled “busts”, then end up ascending to a convincing top 7-8 quarterback in the league and they debate where to rank Darnold in the QB hierarchy if he wins a Super Bowl (28:30). Colin argues that football has changed, and that having a quarterback with “horsepower” is worth putting up with more mistakes and interceptions (35:00).
Finally, John points out the $10 billion dollar sale price of the Lakers and they discuss why the floated 6-8 billion dollar estimated price for the Seahawks seems way too low for a team in the Super Bowl and set up for long term success (45:00).
