Colin’s joined by college football guru Josh Pate to preview the College Football Playoff Championship between Indiana and Miami.

Colin predicts that unlike Oregon & Alabama, Miami’s defense should be disruptive and be able to keep Indiana from a point total in the 30s or 40s (2:00). They debate whether Indiana coach Curt Cignetti could be lured away from college football by the NFL (4:30).

They discuss the huge disparities in finances between the Big Ten & Texas programs and SEC programs like LSU, Alabama & Georgia and without changes to NIL rules…could get left behind and perennially miss the playoff (6:30). They review all the star quarterbacks returning for the Big Ten & debate whether the gap between the Big Ten & SEC will be even bigger next year (9:30).

They also preview Lane Kiffin’s upcoming tenure as coach at LSU and debate whether adding Kiffin will actually bring titles to Baton Rouge (11:30). 

They return to the national championship and discuss whether Carson Beck’s experience in the title game will give him any chance to outplay Fernando Mendoza (18:30). They break down the traits that will make Mendonza the likely #1 pick in the NFL draft, and agree that Indiana’s overall talent is underrated (21:30).  

Finally, they debate whether they’d tweak the NIL or transfer portal if given the chance and Josh argues for classman pay scales similar to what exist in the NFL and why that would help fix problems with the portal and that the “wild wild west” era of college football is bound to end soon (24:45).
