Brett kicks off the program with Pete Kaliner for this edition of The Hangover as they discuss President Donald Trump’s unpredictable political style, his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the changing culture surrounding public appearances. Brett and Pete compare Trump’s off-the-cuff approach to that of a radio host, arguing that his ability to move from prepared remarks into spontaneous commentary is part of his political appeal.

Later, Brett examines the growing dispute between the Trump White House and several major news organizations following restrictions on CNN, MSNBC and Politico at a White House event featuring Chinese President Xi Jinping. Brett plays clips from CNN’s Erin Burnett and reporter Kristen Holmes, who describe CNN’s efforts to gain access to the event and argue that the network was denied editorial access despite submitting credentials. Brett questions CNN’s portrayal of the situation, pointing out that other media personalities and outlets were present at the event while CNN was restricted from participating in the same capacity.
