Brett kicks off the program with Pete Kaliner for this edition of The Hangover as they discuss the lasting impact of 9/11 and the ways the attacks continue to shape American politics, security and culture 25 years later. Brett and Pete examine how the events of September 11th influenced everything from airport security and military operations to the political environment that followed. Their conversation also turns to the distinction between Islam and Muslims, with Pete discussing his views on Islam as both a religion and an ideology and raising questions about how religious beliefs can intersect with government and law.

Later Brett is joined by Robin Faver to discuss her firsthand experience covering the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks while working for Associated Press Radio in New York City. Faver recalls being assigned to cover the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange before seeing the first reports of a plane hitting the World Trade Center. She immediately contacted the AP desk, went live on the air, and headed toward the scene as the second plane struck. Faver describes using pay phones to continue reporting after cell service went down, witnessing the South Tower collapse, and taking shelter underground as chaos spread throughout Manhattan. She also explains how she avoided reporting unconfirmed rumors and did not learn about the attacks on the Pentagon and in Shanksville until much later.
