Today we wrap up Peter's warning about false teachers in 2 Peter 2 and see why only Jesus can truly set us free:
- False teachers are "wells without water, clouds driven by a storm." They promise life-giving water, but Jesus alone is the living water (John 4).
- They promise liberty while they themselves are bondservants of corruption. A slave cannot free other slaves: "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).
- Freedom in Christ is not freedom to sin (1 Corinthians 6:12).
- Does verse 20 mean we can lose our salvation? Hebrews 6 and 1 John 2:19 point to "toe-dippers" who never let faith in Jesus sink deep.
- Test every teacher against Scripture like the Bereans did, because there is only one truth.
- The dog returns to its vomit and the washed sow to the mire, but Psalm 40 shows us lifted out of the pit and set on the Rock.
