Blind SA started on 26th October 1946 to help the blind find meaningful careers. Braille Services of Blind SA was established in 1953 and is the only producer of braille in all eleven official languages of South Africa.

Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness worldwide. It is estimated that 4.5 million persons globally are blind due to glaucoma and that this number will rise to 11.2 million by 2020.
