We are unpacking a major shift that could reshape how young South Africans understand their past and ultimately, their future. The proposed new school history curriculum is placing a stronger emphasis on African history, local lived experiences, and the development of critical thinking skills. The Department of Basic Education has released a draft of the revised Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and it’s now open for public comment. To help us unpack it all and to discuss what this could mean for the future, we are joined by Professor Rozena Maart and youth activist Vedhan Singh.
