For more than four decades, Subry Govender used journalism not merely as a profession, but as a weapon against injustice. He worked during some of the darkest years of apartheid South Africa - the 1970s, the 1980s and the early 1990s - when telling the truth came at a heavy personal cost. He was detained, harassed, banned,and placed under house arrestby the apartheid state - not for committing crimes, but for doing his job.
