As South Africa observes National Burns Awareness Month, we honour the medical professionals who dedicate their work to restoring not only function and appearance, but also dignity, confidence, and quality of life for burn survivors. Joining us is Dr Safeeya Osman, a highly skilled Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist known for her compassionate, holistic approach to patient care and her expertise in trauma reconstruction.

Specialising in paediatrics and special needs intervention, she supports children with speech, language, and communication differences using a neurodiversity-affirming approach that prioritises connection, play, and each child’s unique way of engaging with the world. Merisa is also the host of a podcast focused on child development, neurodiversity, and evidence-informed parenting conversations.
