Let’s connect holistically to oneself-Mind, Body and Soul. - 28 October 2024

Since the arrival of the first Indian Indentured workers in 1860, our forebears endured dreadful working and living conditions, with little time-off. However, when they did get time-off, which was on religious holidays that their masters usually observed, they would often use that time to visit places of worship. That is because religion and culture is so deeply entrenched in the make-up of the Indian community. Today, we reflect on some of those historic religious sites that were built by our ancestors and how these religious institutions have become a core part of our story. We have this discussion with Dr AV Mahomed, Reverend Cyril Pillay and Sunny Pillay.

'Men don’t cry’ or ‘Man up!’ are phrases that have been the bane of many men and young boys lives. November is Men’s Health Month with men’s mental health being a hot topic. Unfortunately, it often loses the attention it deserves due to the stigma and stereotypes associated with it. We discuss men's mental health with Garron Gsell – CEO of the Men’s Foundation SA, Pravisha Dhanapalan - Director of Lifeline Durban and social workers - Thobekile Mzobe and Lindokuhle Magoso.

Men's Mental Health: Men have feelings too

On Talk@7 with Zakia Ahmed Siddiqi - Durban based fitness trainer, Taariq Stokes will embark on 704km run from Johannesburg to Durban on Wednesday to raise awareness for men’s mental health. The run will take about 76 hours to complete. The 25-year-old, along with 11 other runners, are hoping to raise 50-thousand-rand to support mental health institutions and establish community workshops to offer support to men who are struggling with mental health issues.
