ABH responds to abuse allegations at Children's Home

View descriptionShare

KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Mbali Shinga has ordered an investigation into allegations of child abuse at the Aryan Benevolent Home (ABH) in Chatsworth, in the south of Durban. In particular, Shinga is investigating how management dealt with complaints from children in their care, about abuse at the hands of caregivers. In May, four caregivers were dismissed after they were found guilty in a disciplinary hearing, of meting out corporal punishment. Shinga says as custodian of children's rights in the province, she has ordered that the department conduct their own investigation. ABH Centre general manager - Ray Naguran spoke to Zakia Ahmed Siddiqi about the allegations.
