Boiling Chili Oil and a Roommate's Revenge | S18E3

Main story starts

When Grant Amato was dismissed from his nursing job, he spent his time at home and increasingly became obsessed with live streamers, particularly a camgirl known as Sylvie.

Over time, his obsession grew to a point where he was spending upwards of $2,000 on a single night; eventually dwindling all of his savings, and forcing him to borrow or steal money from his immediate family. 

Eventually, enough was enough, and Grant's father put his foot down and gave him an ultimatum, find a job, fix your habits, or get kicked out of the house. This would end up becoming the final straw for Grant, and he would tragically choose his obsession over the lives of his family members.

And yet, even from prison, Grant still wasn't done.

The Man Who Chose a Webcam Model Over His Family | S18E11

Deep in rural Quebec sits a warehouse the public was never meant to think about, a strategic reserve holding tens of millions of dollars in maple syrup, guarded like a national treasure. This was supposed to be the failsafe when something went wrong with the usual harvests, a safe haven protecting one of Canada's most beloved industries. 

 

However, during a routine inspection, an auditor notices something that might threaten the very foundation of their institution, the barrels feel lighter than they should. Then another, and another, and another. Alarm bells were immediately rung, and by the end of the count, more than 9,000 barrels had been compromised.

 

As it turned out, thieves had somehow been slipping in, draining the syrup barrel by barrel, and refilling them with water to keep the weight; and they managed to do this without being caught for the better part of a year. What followed was a manhunt that spanned provinces, exposing the strange economics of Quebec's syrup cartel, and turning a handful of small-town conspirators into Canada's most unlikely criminal syndicate.

Maya woke up in a strange place that she didn't know. Surrounding her was lush greenery, gorgeous flower beds, and a serene natural beauty; the kind of place that only seemed to exist in fairy tales. 

And yet, something about her whole situation seemed unnerving. After all, she last remembered being at a party the night before, before waking up in this strange place. This was when another woman, Lyonette, appeared and introduced herself to Maya.

Through Lyonette, Maya learned about the peculiarities of this place, known as "The Garden". She learned that there other women here as well, and that they were being taken care for by a man only known to them as "The Gardener"; a mysterious figure who had established a strict set of rules for the women to follow.

And over time, she would also learn that there would be strict punishments for those who break the rules.
