On today's episode, Jason blesses us with a deep dive into the San Francisco 49ers' peculiar decision to bring back Jimmy Garoppolo to serve as the backup quarterback to Trey Lance. All offseason we've been told that this is Lance's team and that Jimmy G would get dealt elsewhere, so it's natural to assume maybe the San Francisco brass isn't as sold on their second-year quarterback as they led us to believe. Now 49ers faithful might argue that all this move does is ensure that they have the best backup quarterback in the NFL, but any reasonable person can assume that this isn't exactly a vote of confidence in Lance. This narrative that San Francisco never released Jimmy G because they were worried about him coming back to bite them as a member of the Seattle Seahawks just doesn't hold water. What's more, we heard before the 2021 NFL Draft that Kyle Shanahan wanted Mac Jones until he was overruled by general manager John Lynch; Could you argue then that this is now the second time that the Niners have shown a lack of confidence in Lance? This move reeks of fear.
