Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.
On this episode of Stock Movers, we take a look at some of the biggest gainers and decliners of the week:
- Moderna (MRNA) saw it shares soar to a record 177%, adding around $44 billion in value on Wednesday after it announced a personalized vaccine it developed with Merck (MRK) reduced the recurrence of melanoma in a large, late-stage trial. The breakthrough raises expectations for treating the deadliest form of skin cancer and shows the promise of the embattled mRNA technology.
- Crowdstrike (CRWD) shares fell after Axios reported the company chief technology officer is departing to start an AI-cyber fund. Current CTO Elia Zaitsev's new venture firm is reportedly targeting a $170 million fund.
- Estée Lauder (EL) shares soared after the beauty conglomerate ended a run of three straight declines in annual revenue, reinforcing that turnaround efforts are paying off. The shares closed 16% higher in New York on Wednesday, the biggest daily gain since 2011. The advance pared the stock’s year-do-date decline to 6%.
