The Theology of Legacy: Leaving a Final Witness of Faith — Matt Reinkemeyer

View descriptionShare

On the Son Rise Morning Show, Annie Mitchell welcomes back Matt Reinkemeyer of the Catholic Community Foundation to wrap up their series on the theology of legacy during National Make-A-Will Month.

Matt explains why creating a will is about more than deciding who receives our possessions. Our will can become a final witness of faith—a way to communicate our love for our family while also leaving a lasting gift to the Church, parish, school, or ministry that helped lead us closer to Christ.

The conversation explores what Christians can learn from Christ's ultimate legacy, the Church's teaching about death and eternal life, and the many spiritual and physical legacies generations of Catholics have left behind through churches, schools, monasteries, art, architecture, Scripture, and the sacraments.

Matt also offers practical advice for talking with adult children about estate plans, particularly when they may not understand why a parent has chosen to leave part of an inheritance to the Church. Rather than allowing the will to become a surprise, families can use the conversation as an opportunity to explain how faith has shaped their lives and why they want to help build God's Kingdom for generations to come.
