Why is the Book of Isaiah featured so prominently throughout the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent? On The Son Rise Morning Show, host Matt Swaim welcomes Gary Michuta, author of Messiah: Old Testament Prophecies Fulfilled in Christ (Emmaus Road Publishing), to kick off a multi-week series examining Messianic prophecy. Michuta explains why early Church Fathers often called Isaiah the "Fifth Evangelist"—from the Virgin Birth (Isaiah 7:14) to the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53) and Handel's Messiah titles. They discuss Isaiah’s aristocratic background, his prophetic school, and how reading Isaiah alongside New Testament Lectionary passages illuminates the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
