Winner of seven Jeff Awards, “The Birds of North America” is back for a limited run at the Red Orchid Theatre!  Actress Cassidy Slaughter-Mason joins Andrea to talk about this emotional and powerful performance about a father-daugther relationship and how its affecting audiences all across Chicago!  Cassidy talks about the success of the play, working with her friend and fellow Chicago actor John Judd and the impact of the performance.  Runs though 10/4. The Joffrey Ballet opens its 2026-27 season with the Chicago premiere of John Neumeier’s “Liliom” featuring a 16-piece live jazz band on stage at the Lyric Opera House!  Andrea talks to Production Manager Shandee Vaughn about “Liliom”, which traces a haunting story of love and redemption set against the faded glamour of a Depression-era amusement park – complete with a life-size carousel on stage! This week on the show, it’s a trip down memory lane as we talk to the legendary Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, now touring to promote her new album, “The List”.  Susanna talks to Andrea about her family roots in Chicago (her grandfather was a southside rabbi!), her love for 60’s and 70’s music, how she and the Bangles became one of the most successful all-female rock bands of all time, and her latest album -which she recorded in her living room with some of the biggest names in music.  Most recently, Susanna inducted Colin Blunstone and the Zombies into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!  Colin is currently touring with Peter Asher and The Fixx!  Colin talks to Andrea about being the pillar of the British Invasion and early rock music in London!  And, Peter Asher is one of the most famous producers, songwriters, and music industry insiders of all time.  He talks to Andrea about how the music business has changed over the decades and what we can expect from this intimate performance “A Musical Memoir of the 60’s and Beyond”.  Peter, Colin and members of the Fixx will be at the Genessee Theatre on September 17th

Night of 1000 Jack O'Lanterns returns to the Chicago Botanic Garden for 15 nights this fall!  Associate Vice President of Visitor Events and Programs Jodi Zombolo joins Andrea to preview more than 1000 real pumpkins intricately carved with intimate themes. This year, the garden features pumpkin carvings of dragons, comic book icons and the 150th Anniversary of the Chicago Cubs - plus an illuminated sculpture called "the Monarch Skull".  Runs through 10/25. "Tree Dimensions" is the latest installation coming to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle.  Director of Operations Amy Scott and artist Rommy Gonzalez join Andrea to discuss this new, immersive exhibition coming next spring.  Visitors can step inside a tree sculpture, climb on roots and discover hidden systems that sustain forests.  Information: mortonarb.org

 

"VAPE the Grease Parody" is now playing at the Apollo Theater, 2550 N.
