Our girl Kristyn Burtt is back to talk headlines this week and we start with the explosive DWTS ratings. There is an astronaut campaigning to be on the show, Gleb is so on brand with his playgirl article, are Ezra’s comments on a recent convict scandalous or in jest and which of your favorite contestants from this past season is hosting the DWTS tour. These stories plus which headlines did Cheryl make herself this week in today’s episode.

This is Sex Lies and Spray Tans with Me Cheryl Burke and iHeartRadio podcast. Hey guys, welcome back to the podcast where we talk all things Dancing with the Stars. We are back with our favorite DWTS and reality insider. You know her, you love her, and she's our go to guru when it comes to all things DWTS, Kristin Burt. Kristen's here to break down all of this week's headlines with me. So please welcome back our friend Kristin. Burt, Welcome back to Sex License Spray Tans. Kristin, how are you doing great?

Thanks for having me back.

Have you found yourself a hobby? Yeah?

On TikTok, I was like, I need a hobby. I think I'm going to go back to figure skating classes. I'm going to do a group lesson weekly for twenty twenty five. I used to do it about a decade ago, and I realized, I think I kind of miss it. I want to do something active, I want to meet new people, and I think that's the way to do it.

So let's start out with the first headline. Dancing with the Stars finale score best ratings in three years, ABC's top Entertainment telecast this season. Great news, this is amazing.

This was so good. I was really excited to see these numbers. And it was somewhere in the sixes I believe, for the ABC Live broadcast. But then that increased once they roped in you know what was happening on Hulu and Disney Plus and other video on demand platforms. That it rose to seven point nine to five million, which was the largest audience since twenty nineteen. And that key demographic we always talked about eighteen to forty nine. That was the largest demographic they've seen since two thousand and seventeen.

So why do you think that is all of a sudden, Well.

We talked a lot about this. The interest from TikTok. I think we had a lot of We have Ezra, we have Riley the thing for really drawing in a new audience. We have contestants that drew a lot of buzz. Alona another one who was on TikTok all the time. I think Stephen Atarozik having you know, two people from Bachelor Nation. Anna Delvey drew some eyeballs just out of curiosity for her own controversy, and I think like her iconic nothing really was a moment this season, and I think that the cast itself really gelled well. It was people from all different aspects of you know, pop cultures like Geist, and I think that really worked well and that's something that they're going to have to look toward for season thirty four.

Got it? So I just got word that it was season twenty five that aired in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. I wonder who won that season. I can't even remember. If I were to have a gun to my head, I still wouldn't know.

It's going to be either season twenty five was either Rashad or Jordan. I think, oh, okay, that makes sense, Okay, yeah, oh yep, Jordan, so yeah, okay, yeah yeah.

So maybe it was him that brought in the younger generation because he was very young.

Then Jordan was a great contestant. It was also a good cast that season too, if I remember correctly. So Jordan won. I believe Nikki was Nicki Bella Darcia yeah, was in there as well as the Laches were both there.

So what do you think they need to do moving forward for season thirty four To continue the increase in ratings?

You need to make sure you have a cast that embraces TikTok or whatever happens with TikTok, whether TikTok is right next season, this is going to be a really interesting thing. If TikTok is banned in the United States. Can you imagine, because.

This is god, that's going to affect the show?

Where do we all move? Do we all go to Instagram? Because then we.

Can get the same It's not the same.

I'll tell you, Like gen Z is still on Snapchat, either.

On Lemonade Now or something like that.

But that's owned by TikTok.

Oh crap, Yeah, who owned Snapchat?

It's an American Okay, everything else like Meta or Snapchat or Facebook like all of those our own.

This book is older, right.

It's older. We're not going to go back to Facebook. I feel like the only thing in terms of like video, because we've got reels. I feel like people will still go to Instagram for that. But where do we find that audience because TikTok is a very different atmosphere from Instagram.

I even prefer like sometimes like when I just want to test content out, I'll just post everything on TikTok because it's like it's less manicured, and I love that.

I know, and I really hope that TikTok does not get banned. I don't January nineteenth is a date. I mean, we're at what five weeks until that happens.

I'm shocked with all the other issues in this world that they have made this quick. This is quick, you know, that turnaround from when we first talked about the ban until now January nineteenth, as you know, a final don't They have to go through so many court hearings though, isn't going to take time.

There's a good possibility that because this wasn't appeal, but they might find another loophole, and I'm talking about TikTok's legal team. If they can find another loophole and maybe bide some time, we might get a little bit of time there. But as of right now, January nineteenth is the date.

It'll take time for people to like even have the word snapchat in their vocabulary. It'll take another couple of years. I think of a transition, and I don't see gen z ers being all over Instagram because it's not as raw. I wish Instagram was as raw, but it's not.

And the problem is discovering new people and trends on reels not the same as before. Yeah, the for you page on TikTok is so great right now. I mean, I look at my how it's curated for me Right now. I've been obsessed with Nutcracker and watching all the ballerinas like get ready for the season backstage, and so now everything is either like that's funny, it's yeah, I'm getting Tyler Peck every five seconds, like showing up. But it's great, you know, it's so fun how.

We know what your algorithm is, but also what they have TikTok has that Instagram should actually maybe I don't know copy is creator search insights. It does help with content that you don't know what to post, but there's a whole content gap, and it does work if you consistently do it. And it's almost like they want us to do well on TikTok and on Instagram. It's almost like it's like a discussion. It's a treasure.

Hunt, you know, and the creator program is you know, for many on TikTok is one thing Instagram they sometimes have it, sometimes they don't. You know, you just never know when you're gonna hit.

With that they both pay shit though, so it's fine. I guess, yeah, don't put all your eggs in one basket, and do not quit your day job. No, okay. Astronaut Kelly Girardi, did you talk about this on TikTok about how she is wanting to do the show and she's an astronaut, so that's amazing.

I saw this yesterday and I thought, you know, usually I'm saying don't campaign, like kind of keep your chill, like you'd be doing it under the radar, things like that. But I feel like a woman in stem as a female astronaut, this is something that they haven't done. We've had Buzz Aldrin from season ten he was with Ashley Costa. But I think that this is really interesting and she's clearly a fan. She said Stephen and Ilona were her favorite contestants. She also threw it out there in her New York Post interview. I don't have formal dance training, so she clearly has been listening to all of the discourse over the season, and she said, consider this my audition. I'm ready to go. And she doesn't have any Space missions until twenty twenty six, so twenty twenty five is a great year for her to do Dancing with the Stars, and I feel like she fits into this new genre of how they're casting. I feel like she'd be interesting. And the response on my page to like, oh, I love her. Oh, I've been following her. People knew who she was, and people were really open to the idea.

I mean, she's beautiful from what I saw, and I just need her to stay relevant. Then in around June and July August, get into those get online, get into the Just Jared dot COM's and US weekly, and you'll almost be guarantee to go.

Call Backer and be like, look here at the space station.

Or do Playgirl like Globe saib Chenko. Let's move on to that next headline.

When you guys said me this story, I was like, oh this, I'm so glad. It's Glob being.

Glad, perfect branding for gleb. I'm shocked the show I said yes to that.

I am curious about that too. Now it's the Playgirl name might be controversial, but I feel like most of the men in Playgirl now are have some type of clothing on. It's not like it was, but play Girl, I feel like people still think, oh, it's okay, the guy's going to just be wearing his bathing suit or he's in like a workout gear or whatever. Because Days of Our Lives allowed their cast members Suna play men playgirl as men play boys.

Women, But Lisa Renna did it and Soto Kelly Monaco they.

Did play girl or did they did play boy? Right? And then but the cast of Days of Our Lives the men did play girl this year.

Oh all of them.

Yes, they all about five or six of the men. And they pose like with their shirts off and things like that.

Said Faber though that like it's okay for the men to do it, but.

Not Yeah, I mean, that's the sexism of it all.

That's horrible. But you had Chena Moegler who did the show, she did play boys. You also have Halleen Madison who also did it. So they have contestants that do it. But I don't know if they want their dancers to do it necessarily. And I wonder if Gleb even ask production if that was okay.

It's a good question. You know. I read the article too, and they were talking about stuff that he had done previously, Like they were talking about, you know, his movie with Dank and mckeller and I was like that' last year.

If the show's going to like love do Chippendales, Like, why not?

It's on brand, It's completely on brands. It makes me also wonder after he finishes the tour if he's going to go back to Vegas and Atlantic City to do Chippendales again, because it's a good gift cameo, a good summer gig.

It depends if he's sold tickets or not, so we'll see.

Yeah, I mean, I know he did a lot of promotion in the Vegas area. I saw a lot of media spots and things like that. I have a couple of friends who work in the press over there, and he was constantly showing up on their page. So there was definitely a lot of promotion.

Unless we see Stephen Atahik.

Stephen's so cute.

I'm sure he would definitely sell ticke its because you know, some are very like he's really cute and he's like an all American boy, like why not? Wouldn't be good for the Olympic team.

He's going to be fun on tour.

I think does he know how to host? Like has he hosts before?

You know, the USA Gymnastics Federation. They always do a lot of media training with the athletes, so I think he's going to be a natural. I think he's always been good in all of his interviews too, so I think he's gonna he and Emma together will be able to bow to each other too. It's going to be great.

Yeah, Riley. I would assume Riley would have hosted with him, but maybe not. Not In is the official host, so she is she good?

She's great. Emma's great. She's like the perfect host. You know, she's so likable. She knows how to keep everything like smooth and running and and go with the flow. Because I'm sure every show is different, every city's different.

For sure. This is gonna be a long winter for them, but I bet you they're excited for sure. Let's move on to the DWTS pro floats. United Healthcare Ceo. I'm not laughing. I'm just laughing at the fact that they look like twins. But let me finish the United Healthcare CEO murder suspect his partner for next season. I mean, Ezra.

Wondered if you got a little scolded for this one.

I don't think so. Again, So like I don't think. I mean there's a I don't know, do you think.

It's a little sensitive. I you know, it's it's like, but it's funny, it's it's it's all, it's a lot of things all at once. I think it's funny because they did look alike, and pairing them up together would be funny. It leans into the joke that like Dancing with the Stars will cast criminals and then you know they get their redemption arc and given to Ezra, Yeah, because he had ANNADELVI. So I mean, murders not funny. Also are healthcare. It's complete reform. There's like so many different like there's a whole spectrum of things with.

This depends on Yeah, if you're already angry and angry person, you're gonna find it very rude. But like, I think this is part of Ezra's personality, and I like how he pushed it. Like, look, if it came from me, they'd be like, oh yeah, duh, she would say something like that. But Ezra maybe not so much. But I don't know. Ezra's really spicy and he's very smart and witty. But I would think that they would also then cast Menendez brothers if they ever come out of prison. For God's sakes, let's just make it a dancing with the criminals.

Hey, I know we have to wait till January. Now in the Menendez Brothers.

I can't believe. I was like with my popcorn waiting for this.

Yeah, but you know, if they do get out in twenty twenty five, is most likely plenty of time for season thirty four.

Hell yeah, get to stretching, just saying, can you imagine let's talk about well me, I hate when there's headlines about me. This is awkward. Do you want to do it?

What's the headline on this one?

Sorry? Cheryl Burke is, well, here's a good one. Actually, Cheryl Burke is happy Joey Graza Day one dwts. But there's always a butt thinks another celeb is a true star of the season, which we But I think this was I think there are literally sometimes the headlines come out later because they don't haven't gotten a chance to listen to the episode. But I think this is when you were on, when we were like, let's talk about the true star Elena.

Elena.

Well, here's first, I just related a huge headline. Not a big headline guys.

Well you know it's interesting too. And just so you know this if people don't know this, oftentimes I write the article and my editor writes the headline. A lot of times journalists do not write your own You do not write your own headline. So when people go and like get super mad and like attack a writer, I'm like, I was the editor that wrote the headline.

Well, we also all have bosses, yeah, are they?

Or sometimes I could write a headline and they'll change it because they it has to be like, you know, search bait, clickbait, search engine optimization. There's a whole bunch of like factors that go into a headline. So the headline is going to read like here show again, I'm not doing her thing, you know.

But there's a lot lately. But that just means just news is slow in general.

It's it's a slow time of year for news one hundred percent. And but this isn't new news in terms of like we love that Joey One alone really emerged as a superstar. You know, she's over in the UK with her new rugby team. She's still doing her tiktoks. I see her everywhere. I still love her. I can't I'm excited to follow her in her rugby journey. You know, over the next year.

She keeps posting her beautiful swimsuits Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, which I just love that she's like and that's just another way of her being vulnerable, just like I just need to remind myself today that I was.

A swimsuit copper model, I mean, which is great. She just said that her pop socket had her photo and she's like, I'm not going to apologize for that. Don't be so proud because she looks gorgeous, I mean gorgeous, gorgeous photo shoot. And I think you know, as women, so often we're told like this is the ideal body type, and if you're not this, then you're not beautiful. That's a lie. Like we need to toss that out and love the body that we're in, the body that like allows us to walk and stretch and you know, run all those great things, because we our internal dialogue sometimes is so negative. It's terrible.

Okay, here's another headline which I really hated, this headline about me calling out the judges because that's not exactly what I did. I didn't call them out. It was a question from a fan, and I said, if they haven't gotten their adjudicators, if they didn't get the exam or didn't take the exam, like, why not do it? Like I think it would only help. But this headline, literally and the multiple ones that followed, is just I hate it. I really hate that one.

Yeah, because then it makes you look like.

Like I'm going after them and I'm not.

Ye, it's not Yeah, because it would be interesting because the judging was one of the hot topics of season thirty three, and how can we change it, make it better so people don't feel so angry towards the judges. And we had talked a lot about different ideas of like their each in charge of a category, or like maybe you change the system. I did reality Steve's podcasts, He's like, what about half scores? And I said, you know, we actually did that in season fifteen with All Stars, but that way. He's like, at least in the you know, the viewer's mind, that there's a difference between like a seven and a seven and a half things like that. I don't know if they want to complicate that, but it's there are ideas out there, and I do think that when they come back for season thirty four, they need to rethink how they're judging, whether it's full of points, whether it's categories, whether it's scoring. We need to figure that out.

The question to me was why do you believe the scoring has been so inconsistent? So I, you know, I don't just answer the question, but like using three words like I obviously am also media trained, and we just go on and on and on because I also am filling a show by myself. But it led to the inconsistency, I believe is because you have a couple of the judges that may not be experts right in ballroom. So it's like, how do you make it consistent when the majority, I would say, of the show, not all of the show, but the majority of the show is a ballroom show. And I think they're almost trying to live up to that standard when they, like you said, should kind of be sectioned off as to like what they really do have an eye for. Naturally, that's all.

No, It's good though, because I even I was just thinking, like I saw a TikTok with Sharna today and she just she said, you know, and it's such a great point, and it's so simple. But she's like, they're doing a chaw chaw this week, but they're not going to be doing a cha chah next week. So I need to leave them with that note, which is what we saw Mark do. And what's that note that they can take back that will translate to their samba that they're doing next week or their contemporary or whatever it is. And that makes so much more sense. And I think that that's something viewers would also understand and also most importantly a contestant would understand because you had someone like Chandler going, I'm asking for feedback. I want feedback that I can where I can improve. What can we take back to that rehearsal studio.

And mind you too, they do have a taking time bomb in front of their face, and they do, and you can't just ignore, like let's say they made a mistake or whatever, like you can't ignore that. And then sometimes people interrupt each other on the panel or you get booze and then your time's up, like I guess we don't know until we sit there right when.

You watch that ticking clock, it's especially when you sit behind the judges, you go, oh, look at that. Some of them ignore it. More than others. But it's interesting to watch how they're like trying to get in all of their thoughts at once. And and you know when people always go why are they running out of time so much at the end of the show, I'm like, it's because of moments when they lose a second or two here or there, whether it's up in the skybox, whether it's at the judges panel, that's where those seconds go, and that's why we have to rush at the end.

Do you believe that the finale, like I always hated when they would just like cut to credits, like and that's the finale, congrats, and they are not able to talk to the couples. Do you believe they left enough time this time? No?

I always want to hear I always want to hear more. I would love I used to love it. And so you think you can dance. They do the goodbye package too, and so you get to watch them and like their journey. I think little things like that. I mean, we just don't have the gift of time anymore. We don't have those result shows or anything else like that. But we did you know now that I'm saying this, we did on the finale because we had three hours, so did we need maybe the half an hour wrap up the beginning.

No, I was just gonna say that.

Yeah, it wouldn't it be fun to do like a little wrap up package.

They used to do that with us. Yeah, we used to do it together like our first and last Master interview as couples, and we would be crying, we'd give our last words to each other, like it's beautiful.

It is beautiful, and I and so many of the contestants, like Elona from week one to Alona to the finale, Steven week one to the finale, all of them really had such a beautiful journey.

Derek Cuff and Haley dancing on the stage where she faced health scared. That must have been brought up a lot of feelings that night.

So many feelings. I mean, it's probably a little traumatic because you remember, like what she might not remember that night, but Deryk sure remembers that night, and anyone a couple of the cast members were there that night. Coming back but being able to rewrite that story because there is a happy ending honoring the doctor who saved her life is really truly She's a medical miracle. Medicine is a miracle and that doctor really you know, showed what he's made of that night. I think he was embarrassed. But I love I love seeing that. I just I think it's like so beautiful because you know, it's a it's a part of their journey, and I know that they're both grateful for Haley's health and the second chance that they get.

We don't realize how our body is a full unblessing and vessel that we need to be grateful for. So it's probably a different perspective maybe this time around, which is beautiful. Yeah.

And you know when I went to see their show, which was the second half of their tour from last time, not the holiday show. When I went to see them and it was May or June in Los Angeles, Haley's moved differently, like oh yeah, just a feeling. I just you know, you could feel the emotion like oozing out of every single poor wise she danced. And you know it's that oftentimes when you dance like your whole life, you do start taking dance for granted and you're like whatever I dance, blah blah blah. But like the joy and the gift of being able to have that second chance, You've really saw that in her movement and the feeling. It was really beautiful to see. I'm hoping to go to the Christmas Show. I think they're doing it December twenty first here in La Oh wow. Yeah, I'm having bought a ticket, but I think I might just like grab one at the last minute and go.

Let's talk about Stephanie Sosa. So she gets candid with People magazine. I think it was on People, was it? Yeah, well this is from AOL, but I believe it was an exclusive with People. In the video, I believe was TikTok that she initially oh, got it? Okay. So she gets candid about undergoing lip boseection for the body that I've always wanted. What are your thoughts?

Well, I actually knew that Stuf did this me too a while ago, so before this was ever public. In fact, was it last Not this past summer, but summer twenty twenty three. She was still in recovery and we were We went to a couple of workout classes together, so she came with me. There were certain things she could and couldn't do during her recovery period, so I was well aware that she was doing it and I think that it's so important because people are now talking about procedures that they get done, like botox are fillers.

Well, that's a different it's not a procedure as much as but both section.

I'm gonna Briley Armstrong brand his wife just talked about getting a brow lift, like people are talking about plastic surgery that they're getting. People being more open and sharing the reason why they got it done. Like not I did it for somebody else, She did it for herself. Yes, and she feels so good. I know, she's really been taking care of herself. She has a private trainer, she's been eating really clean, especially during the season. It's really amazing to see the transformation in her confidence. And I think that that as someone who is known her since she did so you think you can dance at eighteen to now, it's really beautiful to see her growth. And yes, this was a step away, you know, step along the journey, and people shouldn't judge. That was something for her that she did for herself, and that's all that matters, honestly.

You know, I've always been a fan of hers, especially when I started seeing her around more when Ezra was a troop right, and I did these auditions with the executives. I think it was right before Sam Champion season and she auditioned and this was before her surgery. And what's interesting to me, no judgment at all, but I vowed I vouched for her. I was like, you guys would be so dumb if you didn't hire her as because like she gas, she's so spicy and she had a different look that we've never really had. Like there's not a lot of representation as far as just all different. I mean there is, there has been, but not like her, Like she's special and she just so fiery and I just love it and she's so like I don't know, she has a style to her. She has a sass, and I believe I thought she was also confident, but she didn't get it. Unfortunately, she wasn't true that season. And then I remember Ezra That's how I find out told me that she was going to do this. My initial reaction was like why, Like I love her body, but again, you know you don't. You got to do whatever you think you have to in it's with her body and she can do whatever she wants and it doesn't know, she doesn't even need to tell us why or any of it. I'm happy she did, though, because it is important, like you said, to bring awareness to all of it and to feel like she can. I'm sure there's a lot of like weight that lifted off of her as well when telling or when saying that on her TikTok. But like I it's interesting that then she got hired for Dancing with the Stars, and I just I just hope that when you know, young women are fans of her and fans of every have you know people that are in the spotlight that definitely, like I've said, I get botox. I'm so open with that, but I haven't gotten my face redone or like I haven't gotten everything restructured like some people may say. But I think it is important to be open about it. But I hope that she doesn't think that the reason why she didn't get Dancing on the Stars was because she didn't get it, you know what I'm trying to say, Like.

Yeah, and I think she knows that too. I think what's interesting is she had the opportunity to go to New York. She's been working on a Broadway workshop that's now going to the paper Mill, and she's going to do that. That brought her a lot of confidence, like it pulled her away from because her dream was always to do dancing with the stars. And I get that, and I you know, and I understand that, and I she was like, do I do this show? And she and I were texting one day and I said, go and do this for yourself. This is something that you know is away. Like your brother's doing one thing, you get to do this other opportunity. You get to work with people in the Broadway community. You don't know where this show is going. This show is set for it is going to make it to Broadway. So right now it's paper Mill and hopefully in the next season twenty twenty six, it'll wind up on Broadway.

But is she acting?

I think she has a small role and then she's a dancer in the ensemble like this is. And she's working with Jennifer Weber, who's a great Broadway choreographer who's working on a ton of shows. So and it's ballroom. So this is great.

It is ballroom. It's ballroom. How come I've never heard of it? I mean, I'm not sure.

It's because it's a workshop. So now it's you know, it's moving through its stages and paper Mill is going to be doing it early in twenty twenty five, and I'm like this, do it, Yeah, do this, And she kept it and she had the best time doing it. It just was a great experience. She was living in New York for a little while, and I feel like those like steps, you have to take certain steps. And sure there was also you know, she was working on her health and her fitness and everything else. That was another part of steps. But when they all came together, I think she just realized, oh, I do have a superpower. And I love that.

You know.

She really told hair and makeup that Dancing with the Stars like I want to wear my hair curly like her.

She's trying not to do it.

I think that they were playing with it a little bit and she's like, I feel really comfortable with it. Was so beautiful to see it that this season, and I love that they Like every time I saw her, I was like, oh, look at that haiography, like the hair flying, it was so gorgeous. Yes to me, I felt like the staff that I've known, you know since She was.

Like, you guys are close obviously, okay.

Like to see her just the real authentic stuff. Shine. This season was amazing.

Yeah, I love I hope she stays with the family and she I hope that like her and Ezra are the new Julianna and Derek in a white because like it is important to have representation in all shape sizes. It doesn't matter, like it's just and they really are standouts.

I think, you know, like you get steph You've got Friley, You've got Ezra. Like that to me is like real next Jen dancing with the Stars.

Who else should be part of that group?

That's so interesting because you know, I sit there and I think, I know that Jenna Johnson's niece is touring with Derek right now, Haley Bills and she did the Dance with Stars Junior. I always look at her and I go, you know, she's eighteen out and she's on tour with Derek. I go, I wonder if they'll bring her in for Troop next year, Like she's someone I think, maybe, well, who wouldn't be that on troop? I don't know, like do you move someone up it, does a troop get a little bit bigger? Or maybe they give Hailey they bring her in for a couple of you know, when they need extra dancers, they'll bring oh yeah yeah to the troop and you get a feel for all of that. But you know she's got Jenna her aunt on the show. She got Derek de vouch for her.

Utah's taken over.

He's as taken over. And I also think of Camray Camery was also. I don't think she thinks she's got two more years. She's sixteen. I think I think if that's correct on that age, so she probably had two more years before she would be eligible for Dancing with the Stars to come in for true But I'm keeping my eye on her. She is keeping up with her ballroom. She's still dancing. You know, she's at center stage, which is we all know is amazing training.
