Holly Frey, host of Stuff You Missed in History Cass, sits down with Maddy Goshorn, one of the ten winners of Seneca Women to Hear: Search for the Next Great Female Podcasters
Hi. I'm Holly Fry, host of Stuff You Missed in History Class, and as a woman podcaster, I know how important it is to amplify women's voices in this space. That is why I am so excited to be talking with a woman who is on her way to be one of tomorrow's leading voices in podcasting. She's one of the ten winners of Seneca Women to Hear search for the Next Great Female Podcasters, created in partnership with PNG and The Card by Seneca Women, Howard by MasterCard and Deserve. After six weeks of training at the Seneca Women Podcast Academy, she'll be launching her own show on the Seneca Women Podcast Network with My Heart. I am sitting here today with Mattie Gosshorn, who is going to be one of the next great podcasters. Maddie, I have already said your name, but will you introduce yourself and tell us about the project that you're developing. Hi. Yes, my name is Mattie Goshorn in his Wonderful at You, Holly, I am currently in the process of making a podcast called Aces Are Wild. It's a dating podcast completely told from the point of view from an a sexual perspective. So that's sort of a fun new perspective to look at dating. I love it. What made you feel like that was the way to talk about dating and also get to talk about a sexuality and that as a representational aspect that isn't often heard about. Yeah, it's true a sexuals aren't normally in the spotlight, um, which I guess it's almost the nature of a sexual is like part of their I mean it's it's like literally the thing that is that their orientation is is the fact that they don't date. They don't show off what they're doing. So it's kind of funny how they're just naturally I guess in the background. But for the dating podcast, it's always just so fun to hear my friend's stories about dating, and sometimes they just feel like that sassy friend like, oh no, he didn't. And it's just very fun to hear like all these different stories from everyone. And and then of course it's it's so interesting because I feel like this third party listening and then I hear my stories from my my gay friends and my friends from other countries, and um, it's just so crazy to be like, wow, it's so different for both of you. But it's still so complicated and frustrating, and that just sort of made me think, like, I bet everyone has some aspect that's just different. Um when it comes to dating. I love it. It's a thing that most people experience in some form or another, so there's a relatability, but it's going to be a little different for from depending on your perspective. So you have been selected as one of the Seneca women to hear as part of this movement that's intended to bring some greater representation and diversity. What does it feel like to be part of that inaugural class and to know that you were one of the people selected out of many, many applicants to really bring that all to the table and represent it is so cool. I I'll be honest, I applied on a whim. It was one of those things where like, you know, this sounds like a fun thing to apply. Why not? It won't take a ton of time to get a little something together, and it's it's so it's still like for real, if I if I tell my friends about it's still like am I dreaming? But now it is such an incredible honor and I'm so excited to see like what the next big thing is going to happen, I suppose from this big jump in my my life. Well, I am really excited to hear your show because I think it sounds hilarious and fun and also certainly a great education for anybody that just wants to study the human conditions. So, Maddie, thank you so much for spending this time with me. Thank you so much all I really appreciate it.
