The Economic Freedom Fighters, EFF have launched an urgent Constitutional Court appeal to overturn a ruling that halted the parliamentary inquiry into President Cyril Ramaphosa. The party is seeking to set aside a Western Cape High Court decision, arguing the judiciary improperly blocked the Section 89 committee from its constitutional duties. Residents and faith leaders from Westbury and surrounding areas will march to provincial and local government chambers this Friday over rampant gang violence. Led by Gauteng MPL Bishop Dalton Adams, the convoy will hand a memorandum to the Premier and City of Johannesburg Mayor demanding a Local State of Disaster be declared under the Disaster Management Act. This comes as escalating gang warfare, public shootings, and civilian casualties leave Wards 69 and 82 under siege. We spoke to  Bishop Dalton Adams.

The organisations say their engagement aims to strengthen communities, promote the rule of law, improve education and tackle crime. But GIWUSA President Mametlwe Sebei argues the alliance promotes xenophobic populism and Afrikaner nationalism.

Researcher Ilene Abrams found that local businesswomen face extreme mobility restrictions and emotional trauma, yet successfully bypass these barriers through informal community networks. The findings show these women deliberately adapt their daily operations to absorb violent shocks, relying heavily on deep community trust rather than formal state support. Economists say the research provides a vital blueprint for tailored policy interventions in South Africa's high-risk townships. For more on the research.
