Economic abuse is often hidden behind love, loyalty and the pressure to “stand by your man”. National Debt Advisors is highlighting how women, including financially independent, high-earning women, can be manipulated into taking on debt to support their partners. This can include paying for cars, funding businesses, covering household expenses or using credit cards to maintain a partner’s lifestyle. When the relationship ends, the woman can be left carrying the financial burden alone. National Debt Advisors’ CEO, Sebastien Alexanderson, chats to Roger Goode about how economic abuse can be present in up to 99% of domestic abuse cases, but financial exploitation is often dismissed as simply making poor choices in love.
