Published Mar 26, 2025, 5:24 AM

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese dials in to chat with us about the budget, his 'Delulu with no Solulu' comment to Peter Dutton, Dua Lipa and using the Signal app.

Pretty late.

The one and only Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony, great.

Choice you were.

You have really rubbed it in because my son, who was down last night in Canberra for the budget, left this morning to work from his officer in Sydney, and he's going to see Dua Leaper tonight and I'll be in Parliament and he'll be at ure luper.

Devastating any of the same.

It's not near the same Prime ministers tonight. For me, it's the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala. That is like the super Bowl for Australian comedians.

He is always fantastic.

Yes, well you know, I'll try my best now that I've got your backing. But is budget night, your version of the budget, Your version of the gala is a bit like that.

It is like the gala event where you set out your plans for the coming year, but in many cases she's setting forward your plans for years ahead. So plans like our strengthen of medicare, we don't want to last for a year. We want that to last for a long time. The school funding that we have finally fair school funding for every public school in Australia. We've delivered arrangements and separate deals with all eight states and territory governments. That is a ten year arrangement that was there in the budget last night. So it's a big deal for us and we landed it, I think last night. These have been economic times. Australians have of course done an amazing job to turn around the economic position that we were in a few years ago, and I do think we're turning the corner.

And I want to say thank you as a member of your electric and obviously i'll leave you in amongst all the micro breweries I'm reading the tax rise will beer has been.

Paused absolutely for two years for the micros as well. What we've done, whether it be for the brewers or the wineries, for all the small players that are largely family businesses, we've increased the completely taxed free threshold by another fifty thousand dollars. That literally put the fifty k in their pockets. That will really help those small businesses that are so important, not just in the Inner West all over Australia now in the regions as well. You can't go anywhere without running into a micro brewer totally.

Well, now that we know what's the most important thing in the budget for one time? Blackwell, what would you say? Tax would is the most important thing for the Australian people right now?

All the cost of living support that's in the bucket, that center topping up the tax cuts so that that we introduced last year, so that now people will benefit by two and a half thousand dollars a year, the energy bill relief for one hundred and fifty dollars, reducing the cost of medicines to twenty five dollars, which is the same price that they were in two thousand and four. Those measures are really important, but also the context of it is what the budget found the key economic indicators. Wages are increased, so you've got inflation falling, wages increasing, interest rates starting to fall. We've done the hard yard to put ourselves in a position which is why we don't want to change tack and go into reverse. We want to keep going forward and there'll be an election called sometime soon for May, and this is the agenda that we'll take forward.

Fabulous, Well, I mean, like yesterday being budget day obviously the election coming, but was yesterday morning a hectic day checking all your group chats, to make sure that there were no journalists in any of them.

I know what you're talking about. I got to say that was pretty extraordinary, pretty unfortunate. These things can happen, but of course they shouldn't happen, and it was rather extraordinary. I've got to say some of that commentary being out there for all to see.

But you know I have I know I have you on signal, which don't You don't have to comment on that, because I don't want to make you nervous, but you're very famous for the big yellow thumbs up on signal.

Of course, the benefit of it is it supposed to disappear, or you said it to disappear if you screenshot it.

Go to snapchat im in a start.

Do you know I felt so deeply as if I wasn't already in love with you. I felt deeply in love with you yesterday when you said this in parliament.

Oh yes, I, speaker, are delulu with no solulu, mister.

Illusional, mister speaker, Lulu with no.

Sluly.

I am deeply in love with you, and I mean that in the most respectful way.

Regularly, Well, you've got to have a bit of fun while you're doing serious stuff and it is, Yes, it is delusional some of the stuff that Peter Dutt was going on today, but body against tax cuts at the same time he's talking about caring about cost of living. So I reckon it was a pretty good point. That is that is dou Lulu a bit like the nuclear reactor plant. That is so Lulu without any.

Solulu allowed you to the regulative and Joel's signal chat and we'll let you go. But yeah, last night I.

Have to explain de Lulu to some of my colleagues. Did you what was that? That was funny? But what was it?

I had the cool one on the team?

That was funny? But what was it? Love that I actually should can? I also just say the Hawks are on top of the ladder, so it's just nice to have a fellow Hawk on the phone as well. But we're a.

Happy team at Hawthorne three from three.

With the family Club. Lovely to speak to.

You Albow see you guys.
