From a historic military execution decision to deeply personal confessions about body image and regret, the Rickey Smiley Morning Show delivers headlines with heart, humor, and plenty to debate. The crew reports on President Donald Trump’s approval of death by Army firing squad for former Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 at Fort Hood in 2009; the Army secretary must still set the time and place, and further federal appeals could delay what would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961. The conversation then turns to Summer Walker’s candid admission that body dysmorphia once pushed her to consider rib-removal surgery after other cosmetic procedures, prompting the team to discuss the pressures of social media, filters, self-esteem, and the importance of trusted people who can challenge dangerous decisions.

Chris Rock also reflects on a choice that still weighs on him: declining repeated requests to help pay legal fees for Roger Logan, the brother of a childhood friend who spent 17 years in prison before his murder conviction was overturned in 2014. Rock’s “no-lawyer” rule was meant to avoid open-ended costs, but his admission that he had the means to help sparks a larger discussion about responsibility, wrongful convictions, and how quickly accusations can become presumed guilt. Comedian Ms. Pat closes things out with an unfiltered conversation about marriage, parenting, menopause, and turning real family stories into comedy, while celebrating the sixth season of The Ms. Pat Show and her second memoir, Ms. American Dream. She says her real American dream is not fame or money but the happiness of coming home to a family that genuinely loves her.
