From health updates to celebrity conversations and important community issues, today’s Rickey Smiley Morning Show delivered a mix of entertainment, inspiration, and real talk. The show opened with concern for music legend Lionel Richie, who recently underwent a successful procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm, causing several tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire to be canceled while he recovers. The crew also discussed Yung Miami’s disappointment over her viral hit “Spend Dat” not receiving an MTV VMA nomination despite generating millions of views and widespread social media attention. Meanwhile, comedian Leslie Jones sparked conversation after sharing that she wants to project more feminine energy and spoke candidly about dating challenges, self-confidence, and being misunderstood because of her appearance and personality.

The show also highlighted former Vice President Kamala Harris’ appearance in Detroit, where she joined Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for a discussion on Black maternal health, reproductive care, and healthcare access. Harris emphasized the importance of addressing disparities that continue to disproportionately affect Black women, who face significantly higher maternal mortality rates than other groups in the United States. Elsewhere, Wellness Wednesday with Dr. MJ Collier focused on heart health, offering practical advice on exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and dental care. Listeners also enjoyed discussions about career first impressions, the return of Toys “R” Us stores nationwide, and celebrity headlines ranging from Chris Brown responding to criticism online to Jermaine Dupri reflecting on passing up the opportunity to sign Bruno Mars early in his career.
