The Rickey Smiley Morning Show kicked off the week with a mix of breaking news, celebrity headlines, and comedy as the crew discussed the deadly flash flooding at the Grand Canyon that left at least one person dead and roughly 15 people missing or unaccounted for, while rescue crews continued evacuations and search efforts after floodwaters destroyed trails, footbridges, and critical park infrastructure. The show also covered Jay-Z’s latest courtroom win after a long-running paternity dispute was dismissed, with reports indicating the case was closed with prejudice and legal fees awarded in his favor, bringing another chapter of the years-long legal battle to an end.

The entertainment conversation stayed lively as comedian Benji Brown joined the crew to discuss his role in The Varnell Hill Show, the highly anticipated Martin spinoff arriving on Paramount+ nearly 30 years after Tommy Davidson’s character first appeared on the classic sitcom. Brown also reflected on touring with Martin Lawrence and working alongside a star-studded cast. Meanwhile, Gary With Da Tea unpacked the online reaction to Keke Palmer’s 33rd birthday celebration after photos surfaced showing her partying with Justin and Christian Combs, sparking debate across social media. The crew also shared laughs, inspirational messages from Bishop Joseph Walker, and their signature mix of sports, culture, and commentary that keeps listeners coming back every morning.
