9/30/2026 "Finding Freedom in the 12 Steps (Part 3)"

On this episode of Recovery Through Christ, Pastor Jon Alworth continues his in-depth look at how the 12-Step recovery model is rooted in biblical scripture and Christian principles. Discussing why addiction is the world's longest-running pandemic—affecting millions of lives across Southeast Texas and beyond—Pastor Alworth emphasizes that true freedom and permanent deliverance are found by placing Jesus Christ at the center of recovery.

In this episode, Pastor Alworth breaks down the foundational steps that break the cycle of secret shame and guilt:
Recap of Steps 1–3: Honesty, Hope, and Faith—admitting our powerlessness without Christ and surrendering our lives to Him.
Step 4 (Courage): Making a searching and fearless moral inventory. Taking an "ego buster" look at pride, resentments, anger, and fear, and asking God to reveal what needs to be confessed, repented of, and forsaken (Lamentations 3:40).
Step 5 (Integrity): Confessing the exact nature of our wrongs to God, ourselves, and another Christian believer—bringing secrets into the light to experience genuine healing and freedom (James 5:16, 1 John 1:9).

9/23/2026 "Finding Freedom in the 12 Steps (Part 2)"

On this episode of Recovery Through Christ, Pastor Jon Alworth dives into the biblical foundation of the 12-Step recovery process. Unpacking how the original 12 Steps originated from Christian principles and the Oxford Group, Pastor Alworth explains why true, lasting freedom from addiction—and all forms of bondage—comes from placing Jesus Christ squarely in the middle of recovery.
Pastor Alworth breaks down the first three essential steps:
Step 1 (Honesty): Moving past denial, overcoming pride, and recognizing our powerlessness without Christ (Romans 6:16, 7:18).
Step 2 (Hope): Believing that through Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, complete restoration is possible (Romans 8:2).
Step 3 (Faith): Making the decision to surrender our lives fully to Christ without reservation.

Whether you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, anxiety, pride, or grief, this episode offers practical biblical truth and the hope of healing in Jesus' name.

Grounded in scripture—including Lamentations 5:21 and John 8:32—Pastor Alworth explores how self-deception, rationalization, and external blaming keep individuals trapped in cycles of addiction, pride, anger, and emotional bondage.

Drawing on both clinical insights and personal experience, Pastor Alworth outlines the four stages of denial (Unawareness, Resistance, Admission, and Acceptance) and emphasizes that true, lasting recovery begins with rigorous honesty before God and oneself. Whether dealing with substance abuse, trauma, or destructive habits, listeners are invited to step out of darkness and embrace the new identity and purpose God has designed for them.

8/5/2026 "Breaking the Chains of Isolation: Finding Strength and Healing in Christian Fellowship"

In this episode of Recovery Through Christ, Pastor Jon Alworth explores how addiction often leads to isolation, fear, and avoiding life's mounting responsibilities—including financial and tax burdens. Joined by tax attorney and former IRS counsel Lance Stodghill, Pastor Jon shares his own journey of overcoming insurmountable tax debt during recovery.

Together, they break down the deep parallels between addiction recovery and tackling debt: confronting pride, taking personal responsibility, and seeking help instead of sticking your head in the sand. Lance walks through the six concrete options for resolving back taxes—from installment agreements and Offers in Compromise to the "Fresh Start" program—and provides actionable steps and free resources (like VITA and Low-Income Taxpayer Clinics) to help you get back on track.

Key Topics Covered:

Isolation and Trauma: Understanding the roots of addiction and how it pulls us away from family, friends, and reality.

Overcoming IRS Fear: Why hitting rock bottom financially might actually be the best time to settle tax issues.

The 6 Ways to Handle Tax Debt: A breakdown of full payment, installment plans, Offers in Compromise, bankruptcy, currently not collectible status, and why the "ostrich method" never works.

Rebuilding Your Life: Moving out of darkness, restoring relationships, and practical steps to regain financial and spiritual peace.

7/22/2026 "Restoration Beyond Addiction: Facing Your IRS Problems with Faith and Action"

"Overcomers are not born; they are forged through surrender."

In this powerful episode of Recovery Through Christ, Pastor Jon Alworth sits down for an intimate, eye-opening conversation with a man who has spent the last two years running the soundboards behind the scenes: his own show producer, Steven Kay.

For decades, Steven lived a highly successful public life in Christian radio—while privately harboring a dark, heavy secret. Moving away from the label of "addict" and exposing the subtle traps of a "drug abuser," Steven opens up about:

The Power of Choice: How the enemy uses subtle whispers and toxic relationships to lure us back into old, destructive patterns.

The Trap of the Double Life: The exhausting reality of hiding behind hypocrisy and the shame that keeps so many from seeking help.

The Difference Between Sobriety and Deliverance: How Steven transitioned from simply "choosing not to sin" to experiencing the true, supernatural peace of Christ that removes the desire altogether.

Tune in to hear a raw, honest testimony of how God never stops chasing us down, proving that no matter how deep into the darkness we run, His grace is always fast enough to catch us.
