Bensman argues upcoming 9/11 retrospectives will downplay the attackers’ Islamist motivation even as the 9/11 Commission Report put radical Islam at the center of the plot. He says the threat never vanished—plots still form, and better disruption, not disappearance of the ideology, is why fewer attacks succeed. Bannon presses the Commission’s redactions, Saudi questions, and post-9/11 wars. Bensman holds the core finding on motive.
